fuel economy(my first post)

I bought my tC as a daily driver. It is a great alternative to all the boring economy cars out there. I should take delivery later this week.
What kind real world mpg do you guys get?

ehj 10-25-2006 06:56 PM

I get 23mpg city/hwy. I have a 5spd. It's a shock for me because I used to drive a 5spd Corolla where my average was 32mpg.

However, the tC is more powerful and a "cooler" car than a Corolla.

disgruntleddutch 10-25-2006 07:09 PM

i get about 25 mpg city/hwy. About a hour commute each way every day of which 30 minutes is sitting in stop 'n go traffic.

I drive an auto.

engifineer 10-25-2006 07:21 PM

I have always averaged about 24mpg. On trips, I ususally see about 30mpg on highway. In heavy city driving only about 21.

tc_monkey 10-25-2006 07:53 PM

23 to 26 mixed highway/city ( much better than the 12 I get with my Jeep®)

draxcaliber 10-25-2006 08:16 PM

when i drive to school once a week, it is a 125 mile drive, i use half the tank, which is about 17 mpg, ofcourse i'm driving before dawn, and going about 90 mph since there is no traffic, but it is up alot of mountains. when i drive back home, i used like 3/8's of a tank cause of the downhill slopes, and the traffic makes me travel slower, like 70 to 80 mph, i get about 34 mpg. so gas mileage gets really bad if you push that needle into the second half of the speedo.

TcSpaWN 10-25-2006 09:17 PM

i get about 26 mpg

Nick06tC 10-25-2006 09:21 PM

22-23 city 27 highway

With a bunch of mods.

93_Snake 10-25-2006 09:44 PM

I usually get around 27 mpg driving a steady 75 mph on the highway.

nodsetse 10-25-2006 11:12 PM

Easily less than 20mpg, in the city, when I drive aggressively.

mike6789k 10-25-2006 11:23 PM

nodsetse, same here... right now im about to refill my tank and ive only gone 207 miles, LOL!

TongMan 10-26-2006 12:00 AM

I get around 23-25 mpg and i'm supercharged.

CuRiOuSfIsH 10-26-2006 01:19 AM

I have a 07 MY, I drive about 70% highway, I have achieved 27 w/ me pushing the car around a little. 30 MPG with just normal driving.
I may be an odd one, I usually get higher MPG than most ppl.

docjpv 10-26-2006 01:23 AM

i guess it really depends on how heavy your foot is on the gas pedal..

i average from 24-26.. 60% city, 40% hway.. going about 5 miles above the speedlimit..

Disodium 10-26-2006 01:25 AM

30 MPG 70% Highway, shifting at 3K or lower

Spect2K3 10-26-2006 02:13 AM

Mix of highway/city driving. I tend to hit the gas a bit. I get avg 24.5 mpg - always 5spd tranny

Diversion 10-26-2006 03:05 AM

I put 400 miles on my first tank of gas (the tank it came with when I bought it). About 50/50 city/highway driving. That's pretty impressive to me for a 2.4liter.

Diversion 10-26-2006 03:29 AM

Well keep in mind the 07s do get slightly better all-round gas mileage over the 05/06s.. we have higher compression which makes for a more efficient motor. And I think our cams might be slightly different too, I say this because the midrange in my 07 isn't as strong as my girlfriend's 06. But the 07s seem to pull harder in the higher rpms.. Could all be in my head though.

CuRiOuSfIsH 10-26-2006 04:21 AM

^^^ perhaps not, torque did drop by 1 but power peaks 300RPM higher, and it's not known how long that lasts for. A dyno chart would answer some questions.

Diversion 10-26-2006 07:06 AM

I just know while cruising in 5th gear on the highway, her 06 will pick up and take off a lot faster without requiring a downshift than my 07.. it's definately not as strong in 5th around 65mph.

Not complaining, the 07s should be a better car to modify and get more speed out of.. I'd like to see a dyno comparo of the 05/6 to the 07. And a roll race between the two.. I have a feeling the 07 drop kicks the 05/06s in the higher speeds because of the new power curve.
