Default History of the Scion tC (1st Generation)

Based on the European Toyota Avensis chassis, the Scion tC (ANT-10) was the first all-new, designed-for-Scion vehicle in the family. The recent death of the Toyota Celica left a hole in Toyota's sporty coupe category. The tC became available in showrooms in mid-June of 2004 and immediately broke all sales goals. Sharing a 160hp, 163 ft-lb 2.4L VVT-i engine (2AZ-FE) with the Toyota Camry, the Scion tC outpowers competitive small coupes and opens the doors to modification. Scion's practice of standardizing all options is again in effect, with panoramic glass roof, reclinable rear seats, power everything, 17" wheels and six-speaker CD system. Base pricing was $16,000 for the manual and $16,800 for the auto.

A few small changes were made for the 2006 model year. A new three-spoke steering wheel was added with integrated audio controls to control a redesigned Pioneer head unit. The new head unit included a central input jack and volume **** for easy MP3 player integration. Two exterior colors were exchanged for two new, almost-imperceptably different colors: Nautical Blue replaced Indigo Ink Pearl and Classic Silver Metallic replaced Silver Streak Mica. Base pricing rose $200 to $16,200 for the manual and $17,000 for the auto.

The Release Series line of the Scion tC was a limited-release option package that began with the Scion tC RS1 in April 2005. Only 2500 Absolutely Red RS01s were produced, each with a plaque mounted inside the vehicle stating the edition number. The option package also comes with special 18" wheels, grill and interior fabric design, along with various other color-coded accessories and trim parts.|RS1 Absolutely Red Discussion|

The second Release Series tC was available only in Blitz Blue Mica and was limited to 2600 production units. The upgraded package includes standard side and curtain airbags, black Alcantara trimmed seats, integrated rear 6" subwoofer mounted below the rear floor, stainless steel mesh grills and satin 17" wheels. The package adds $1960 to the base price of a standard tc, for an MSRP of $18,260.|RS2 Blitz Blue Mica Discussion|
'07 Scion tC RS3||
The 3rd Release Series tC, limited to just 2500 vehicles, was released in February 2007. The car came in Blizzard Pearl -- a color previously found on a few Lexus SUVs. The most noticeable upgrade was the addition of a KenStyle bodykit and custom grill. Darkened headlights and LED taillights round out the exterior, while the interior upgrades include Alcantara surfaces, a Razo shift **** and Pioneer subwoofer. This package adds $2580 to the base price for a total cost of $18,980.|RS3 Blizzard Pearl Discussion|
'07 Scion tC Spec||
The Scion tC 'Spec Package' became available in the 2007 model year. This package was aimed at tuners that would be modifying or racing the car. The largest changes were a fixed glass roof instead of the power moonroof and sixteen-inch steel wheels with hubcaps instead of seventeen-inch aluminum wheels. Other changes include a unique seat material, deleted cruise control and steering wheel controls, removal of the engine immobilizer system, blacked out grill and headlight treatment, and only four color options: Super White, Flint Mica, Black Sand Pearl and Classic Silver Metallic. The price for the tC Spec is $15,000 for MT and $15,800 for AT, plus $540 delivery fees. [Spec Chart]|Spec Package Discussion|
'08 MY Changes||
For the 2008 model year the tC received a few style changes. New blacked out halogen-projector headlights and clear lensed taillights, both with circular chrome ring styling treatments. A new mesh front top grille and lattice lower front grille. The Black Cherry Pearl and Azure Pearl paint colors were replaced with Sizzling Crimson Mica and Wave Line Pearl respectively. Ipod connectivity is now standard along with a new updated head unit design. The interior illumination for gauges and the HVAC unit has been changed from amber to orange. Other new interior features are silver painted accents to the interior door grips and center cluster and updated seat fabric mesh and a standard 6" pioneer subwoofer.
'08 Scion tC RS4||
The 4th Release Series tC was released on February 2008. Available to only 2300 vehicles, the tC RS4.0 featured a DAMD body kit, unique front grill and Galactic Gray Mica paint color. Interior enhancements included: an all black leather wrapped steering wheel, black leather and dark wood RAZO "Executive" style shift ****, gray and black Alcantara front and rear seats with tC RS 4.0 embroidery and an optional color matched lip spoiler for $285 extra. The cost of the RS 4.0 adds $2770 to the price of a stock tC, making it $19,770 for a manual transmission and $20,570 for an automatic transmission.|RS4 Galactic Gray Mica Discussion|
'09 Scion tC RS5||
The 5th Release Series tC was released to only 2000 units and dubbed their "TRD Release Series". For an extra $2300 to the MSRP of a base 2009 tC, you received gloss black exterior paint and TRD edition 18" Matte Black multi-spoke wheels with a red trim, front and rear seating with custom red stitching and a black leather wrapped steering wheel also with red stitching. But the most notable additions to this RS are the slew of TRD parts given to it: Red TRD lowering springs, TRD rear sway bar, TRD sport muffler, TRD stitched floor mats, a TRD exterior badge, an optional color matched lip spoiler was also available for $285.|RS5 Gloss Black Discussion|
'10 Scion tC RS6||
The RS 6.0 tC was first shown in early 2010 and only 1100 unites will be produced. Features for this Release Series include special Speedway Blue paint with a matte-black vinyl along the beltline of the body including the RS 6.0 logo on the rear quarter panel. The bright blue color carries to the interior with bright stitching on the steering wheel and color-tuned front and rear seats. The only other improvement is the inclusion of the Alpine premium audio system with navigation. This package will be priced $1520 over the standard tC pricing.|RS6 Speedway Blue Discussion|[/table]

pretty good review. I can add a bit of info about the 2.0 Release Series. I've seen a picture of it. It has a grill similar to the RS1.0 and will be "Blue Blitz Mica". No speculation here... that picture came directly from the muckey-mucks at Scion in Ca and in Glen Burnie MD. It was shown to several Scion Club presidents (Tango included) and 17 Scion dealers at a meeting in WV over the weekend.

We also got some info about another unique model... more to come later.

Hmmm... I haven't heard of the FW-22. I thought it might be the model code or VDS that Toyota uses internally for ordering, but those are:
6220 DE167 tC Auto w/ Side Airbags
6220 DE177 tC Auto w/o Side Airbags
6221 DE167 tC Manual w/ Side Airbags
6221 DE177 tC Manual w/o Side Airbags

Can you show me a link or something that says FW-22 on it? I am SURE that the chassis code for the tC is ANT-10.

They put a different intake manifold on the 07s. And along with that you can't get the S/C for the tCs pre 07

Hehe, you mean the Celica was the Scion tC's predecessor. That is actually a good idea, I am going to add that right now.

I definitely felt like I was behind the wheel of my 77 Celica GT when I test drove the tC. I may even apply the red and black GT stripes and rear window louver to my 05 tC.

Hell, I thought tC stood for Toyota Celica.

about half people share the Celica thought and the other half think the 2 have nothing to do with each other.

but anyway, if you wnna update for the 2008 year i have several pictures of the new 2008 tC:
http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y18...%20Scion%20tC/

the changes are mostly cosmetic, only functional change is the addition of projectors for the headlights, all of the non vehicle specific options for the xB2 (remote start, head units, iluminated door sills) are now available on the 2008s. i dont feel like typing out the whole 2008 tC booklet right now. :p

tc= third child. (at least, to Toyota employees, that's what it means, but everyone calls it Touring Coupe.)

i dont call it touring coupe.

and i've never seen a statement or anything that suggest xA/xB/tC/xD are initials for anything at all but what people want it to mean.

I am work at local Toyota Dealership and it true about the naming of the tC. They really couldn't call it the xC because of the Volvo XC90 SUV.

tC= third car

Well after the xD...what will come next? Think now...xE!
