i had to put $200 down. i did it right after i test drove it, because they had the exact one i wanted.

that smell is probably protective oils and coatings on the engine, exhaust, coolant lines mayve..brake smell and clutch smells also for the first few miles...
they will check it over before they deliver it to you, so they will make sure nothing if actually burning

Good luck with getting the car...for me being in Nor Cal tho...I test drove, the salesman asked what color and tranny I wanted and checked when they would be getting one in and he held it for free...well this was about a year ago...when the car was a higher demand I guess? I dunno? but yea, he said if we didn't want the car, he wouldn't mind cuz he would sell it quickly anyways since demand for it last year was high...catch my drift? Which is why he didn't need a deposit I guess...who is a good thing...but yea...good luck and enjoy your ride!

Default buying TC

I noticed alot of people had to put money down to order a TC. I didn't have to put a dollar down and they ordered my FM, manual. Had mine since June 05 and am really pleased with it. It's a well made care for 16,500. The only think I don't like is it has a bit of road noise from the low profile tires.

Good luck and enjoy.

Dont listen to captain. He recieved a car with some issues, now comes on here only to bash the car... very childish IMO.

SOME of the tCs had some rattles in the first year or so.. not all of them.. I would say not even a high percentage of them from the info I have seen. I even started a post for people to compile issues and worked and worked to get people to send in info.. guess what??? 5 entries total so far. There are more of course with issues.. but people dont seem to want to take a logical and statistical approach.. they would rather come on and b!tch constantly and send unprofessional complaints (which are most likely ignored) to customer care. And as a side note... I mentioned to customer care what I was doing and they are very interested in my data.... too bad I dont have enough to make any conclusions.

But, mine was purchased in Oct 04 and I have none of the issues mentioned.. .as well as many others I hear from. So dont get all sidetracked on those things. You can find bad cars in any model whether it be toyota or porche (check recall data).

Overall, even with the TWO rattles that they had (hatch and sunroof) I think they are great cars. Last I heard dealers have been able to start solving the hatch rattles. Hell, I havent even heard a complaint of them in the last 6 months or so. The sunroof as well.

Enjoy your new car!

Word of advice, put down your deposit with a credit card. That way, if you back out, and they charge you, you can just let Mastercard or Visa tell them to go ____ themselves.

Paying cash for the car made it a lot easier than financing it. I wanted to put it on my debit card, since I get .5% back, (90 bucks would have been my first three tanks), but they won't go for that since they don't giving their 3% to the credit card companies.

True on both counts - this guy only hangs here to act like a 9-year old.
Enjoy your tC - I just got mine 6-weeks ago, and have had no problems at all.
Almost every car I've owned had some squeak or rattle - it's not a big deal, although I'm happy mine's quiet so far.
The tires (any of this type) may be noisier than you're used to - but that's the trade-off.

Good luck, and post some pix when you get your new baby!

If you are living at home and can afford to save all your money for a year or two, then paying off is one option. The only downside is that this does NOTHING for your credit. Paying cash has no real benefit in that area. A better choice is to invest that money wisely and finance the car. If you do it right you will make nicely on your investment and will build your credit as you pay off the car. You can still overpay considerably, but pay it out over a couple of years to build a good payment history on your credit.

But, when you are on your own and your normal mothly living bills are $3000... its kinda tough to do it that way.. so enjoy it while you can

No, I'm in reality. I have a life and a sweet car. it's fine. Most tCs are. Every product, no matter how good has some lemons.
I can see though that you're the type to cry/whine/bit¢h and not deal.
Why don't you go to the Pinto forums so you can commiserate with your fellow rolling-bomb drivers and leave us alone???
