Default Manual or Automatic

I just started to learn to drive manual on my friends car. I'm learning in a parking lot but I haven't driven in traffic. I don't know whether to get my first car in manual or automatic which would be better for me I live in NY so traffic can get hetic sometimes. Is it even that bad to drive a manual in traffic??

if you drive a manual in traffic, it shows you have some *****. save 800 bucks, drive a stick. Once you learn how to drive a stick, it becomes second nature..meaning you'll eventually do it without thinking about it, even in traffic. Don't let traffic be the reason you get an auto. Someone's signature on here says "you ride in an auto, and drive a stick"...i like that saying.

it won't tear up your engine if someone is learning on your car. i learned on a tC that had literally $15,000 worth of accessories on it. i didn't want to drive because i thought i'd f*ck up the engine...but i didn't. neither will your mother. just keep running the whole "it's 800 dollars cheaper" thing past them.

Ight. I'm still learning but I know you only have to press the clutch down when starting and changin gears so that's easy but I still don't get how it's hard in traffic like couldn't you just hold down the brake and clutch or would it stall??? I need to drive stick more need more experience

Like i told someone earlier tonight, Once you learn how to drive a standard, and get comfortable with it, it becomes second nature, meaning you'll eventually do it without thinking about what you're doing. Just go out late when there's little or no traffic and practice on the streets.

and trust me when i say you're no badass. if someone challenges you to a race, don't do it..you'll stall and look even stupider.

it is up to you. Manuals are for people who want complete control of the vehicle shifting and you have the best performance. Automatics are opposite. Me personally, I hate automatics b/c I don't like computers doing things by themselves. Especially, telling me what it wants to do when I say don't.

I guess its good to learn 5-spd. I'm going to trade in my car for a 2006 tC 5-spd or 350z 6-spd. But I'm in Houston, TX. So I think I'll be okay....you in NY?

dude an auto is gonna b so much easier. imagine driving in traffic day after day after day and all your doing is shifting back and fourth. it might be fun at first, but after a while your gonna get tired. that y i got an auto. i mean, if i lived in a rural area, or was getting the car for racing, i would get a stick. but for everyday driving, especially through traffic, the auto is a smarter choice.

if i was buying a real performance car, like a 350z, G35 then i would def get a stick. but the tC isnt even a performance car so i dont really care

drive a auto, So when a girl is in your car, You can "One hand on the wheel, and one hand on the her tight" j/k,
I live in NJ, the traffic is not that bad. This TC is my first stick shift car. After 2 hr of traffic jam on the Graden State Parkway. NY traffic should be piece of cake.
I might take the tc to Mahattan ChinaTown next month.

traffic isnt so bad once you get used to it. besides the reward of the fun and control of a manual is so rewarding anyway; it more than makes up for it.

I hope you're kidding about taking your car to Chinatown, it is one of the most congested drives in NYC (although I can attest to the horror that is the GSP).

and that one-hand-here-and-one-hand-there thing is just pathetic.
