Default Metal U-Ring hanging downward under the car in the center of the rear suspension

I was wondering if you guys could run out to your cars and check to see if this is normal. I could have sworn I have never seen it before, and I just noticed it today. I have an aftermarket exhaust. If you have a stock exhaust, that fat muffler might be in the way. It's a metal o-ring/u-ring type thing that is bolted/welded under the middle of the rear suspension and is hanging downward. I just want to make sure this has always been there and it's not something that just happened or something. I tried google imaging it, but not pictures were helpful. I think I might have seen it in one picture, but I'm not entirely sure. Just checking to make sure that all you first gen tC's out there have this. Thanks guys.

Check your manual. It's where you put a jack to lift the rear of the car.

yup it's the rear tow hook, also the jacking point for the rear of the tC.
