A lot of times, when a header is installed, it can throw a CEL. If you have a header that allows you to keep your 1st o2 sensor and doesn't throw a cel, you should be fine.

what kind of inspection? emissions inspection or just safety inspection?

if md, if you have a check engine light, you automatically fail, and if it gets rid of the cat, it won't pass the sniffer inspection...maybe...

coz if not.. ur good if ur area is basic.. wer u only hav to smog it for a change of ownership.. unlike enhanced areas..

well..NJ sucks for just about everything with cars....highest insurance in the country...it sucks...but NORTH jersey isnt that nice but i live in South Jersey....3 miles from Avalon a.k.a. average price for a house is 2.2 million...with the lowest 2 bedroom rancher going starting around 600,000...new jersey is extremely diverse..i know you were j/k but i just wanted to throw this info out

yuuup! Any 1997 and up vehicle doesnt need to have an emmisions test, just OBD-II scan. No CEL = No problems!

I didn't know that newer cars still took the sniffer test...
anyways...

If you don't throw a CEL, you will be fine. They will hook the computer up to the car to make sure all your readings are on par. Most places don't even bother with a visual inspection. As long as your Cat's and 02's "appear" to be working, you should be fine.

Also, make sure your exhaust isn't too loud, or else they may suspect you have done something to it and will look further into it. Most shops love to fail you because they will at minimum charge you for another inspection, and repairs.

Yep. OK was the same as well.

Whats funny, is that out of everywhere I have been, the twin cities area has great air quality compared to other cities its size. People get around the inspections, they typically serve to make people money and that is about it.

so in maryland, all i have to do to pass is show up, not have a cel, and let them scan with an obd II? no sniffer?

Good post - The noise just reminded me that I will have to get my car inspected by a shop ...the car itself is fine but I can see one of those fools at the DMV failing me. I honestly don't even know how often the NJ inspection is on a new car ....4 years maybe?
