"race" shifting
You are close woozy, making sure you have some torque in the next gear is only useful for 1st and 2nd gear, from then on you are already moving and the best HP gain is better. However, if you get too close to redline you run into the problem of not having enough momentum to carry over into the next gera. Thus you should always go underneath redline for optimum shift. Remember, if you get too close to redline the HP starts to drop dramatically (and then you run into the problem with the rev limiter and start "rev bouncing"). The key is to carry a few RPMs above maximum HP so that you can start at a higher rev in the next gear.
Double clutching is for up-shifting, double de-clutching is for down-shifting. Double clutching lets you drop the RPMs faster than if you were just to put in the clutch and go to the next gear. The problem arises that the RPMs can drop TOO much, so you rev the engine in neutral (no clutch engaged) and then shift into the next gear to keep the revs at its most optimal point for the next gear. When racing with a standard manual gearbox this is very common. Even sequential gearboxes (as seen in the upper-end dragsters) do something VERY equivalent to this.
Hopefully this helps some of you, maybe I can get some tC's together for a track day here in Atlanta and we can do a comparison of the two shifts. I already have my money on who would win

the hp doesn't drop "dramatically" as you get close to redline, look at the numbers on the second link i posted above. what ever i'm done talking about this if you wanna shift at 5700 do it, i know i'll be shifting at redline
why 5700??? and why 2.5 or 3k???i hit that bad boy 4 or even 4 half and pop the clutch...and shift at 6200 if you ask me shifting at 5700 you are losing alot of power...the vvti opens around 4k so you probably be dropping the needle pretty far down if you aint powershifting...[/quote]
6200 is the redline...the maximum power is available at 5700...thats y u would want to shift then....ull get a lil extra power with each shift if done at the right time

lol lets educate america to have more people out there street racing and crap...you wanna do that stuff....take it to the track..and do it all you want...or run the cost of hurting others or busting ur ___ in the back of the popomobile
I've heard of a method of starting off the line where you drop the clutch in 2nd gear at high rev's and cause a slight spin, and then as soon as the rev's drop you shift back down to 1st and then its sequential from there. Supposedly grabs traction faster, especially with cars with greater horsepower.
