Remote Car Starter for tC?
#21
It doesn't matter if you have the XK05, if you remote start you lose your immobilizer security feature. The immobilizer is designed to shut down the car if it is started with a key that is unlearned by the car. A "bypass" by any device means that a valid immobilizer chip is always available to the car, thus during a remote start it checks the immobilizer and sees a valid key due to the bypass.
In other words, if you have a bypass anybody can copy your key and drive your car because you provided them with a valid immobilizer in the bypass.

This isn't true. You don't lose your immobilizer. The devices only send the "chip" code to the ignition when it is remote started. It is not sent at any other time. Yes, it's true a theif could trick the unit into sending the code when it's not supposed to, but by the time they've found it, they could take the key and start your car... With the xk05, there's hardly any chance they'll figure out how to get by the immobilizer through that. It'd just be a mess of wires, then three that go to the vehicle for the bypass.

I have a remote start on my manual tranny tc. Just got to remember to leave the ebrake on and car out of gear to start it. Its a life saver because the car is warm and I dont have to get up earlier to scrap windows. I actually didnt use a relay for the clutch. I just ran a hot wire to the clutch switch so now I can start my car without depressing the clutch.

a good security system can even lower your insurance in some instances, and if you get anything else on your car, it would protect all of that too. I was debating for a bit, and then i decided to get the Zenesis system(awesome) and i couldnt be happier I did it...
since then i have got the D3, alpine subs and components, and a ps2(for guitar hero haha) and i know that if anyone tries to jack me, the two way will page me and ill go stealth ninja on them and beat them down while they are in the act....
get the security system! :D

thanks! i am definately getting security, but its the debate of getting remote start, cuz that's only way i can get a 2 way pager with it it seems like, or if i find one w/ the 2 way its expensive as hell to might as well get remote w/ it.

I also have a remote start on my manual transmission, I had a shop around here do it for me, I think it ran me like $450-$500 for everything(install included), its a Viper alarm, with all the goodies, they used one of my spare keys, its hidden under neath the dash somewhere, they also disabled my clutch, so now I do not have to push down on the clutch to start the car, saves the clutch in the long run if you ask me. Like someone above stated, I love how I do not have to go outside in the morning to warm up my car, I can just start it from inside my house, it also has a feature that if you forget that your car is on, it will shut down on its own after a few minutes.

I have the viper 771
They used the xk05 and i didnt need to have key in the car.
The starter imobilzer light flashes when the car alarm in engaged/or the car is off
When you put your key in the ignition the light goes away just as from the factory.
Im not sure how anyone can prove that the starter imobilzer still works but if someone can show me how to check it i will
