Some idiot told me the Chevy Cobalt has a tC chasis..???

Someone I know told me the 2005 Cheverolet Cobalt has the same chasis as our much loved Scion tC. Is this true? Somebody tell me its BS!
I dont want someone mistaking my well-built japanese car for a chevy! (Not to say domestics cant build nice cars, they just have a bad quality control department, blame it on the lazy union workers)
Its human to be biast.

Stupidest thread ever. No.

superjeer 08-27-2004 08:18 PM

sTalking_Goat 08-27-2004 08:21 PM

yep, all true...

Bigfoot himself told me, and he would know having worked in Toyota R&D ever since the Majestic 12 fired him for that whole inter-office relationship he had with the Loch Ness Monster...

She's quite a hotty.

I'd hit it.

BoomBox757 08-27-2004 08:28 PM

scion909 08-27-2004 08:42 PM

Toyota Matrix =Pontiac Vibe
Toyota Corolla = Chevy Prizm
Scion tC= Chevy Cobalt :?: :?: :?:
Who Knows??

haihengh 08-27-2004 09:01 PM

don't worry, that's total BS.

here is the reason:

Cobalt = cavli replacement = cheapo domestic car
tC = avensis = bettern than corolla mid size car

as far as i know, Avensis is on pair with Camry or very close if not. i don't see a reason to build a car base on a 20k car chasis and sell it for 10k.

WagenMaster 08-27-2004 09:03 PM

Nope, it's BS.

The Saturn Ion Redline and Chevy Cobalt share the same platform/chassis, and utilizes a transmission from a Saab (All GM companies).

The tC however only shares its platform/chassis with the Toyota Avensis sold in Europe. Scion quotes that it's the only Scion model specifially built just for the Scion lineup, not to be duplicated and sold in another market with a different badge.

It's true that Toyota has, in the past, shared development ideas/technologies with GMC. However, with the fail of the Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix in Japan, Toyota chose not to renew its contract with GM. They are no longer sharing any technology or platforms for future models.

tcwannab 08-27-2004 09:16 PM

yea that guy truely is an idiot. its built on the delta platform, basically the twin of the Saturn Ion, but with Chevrolet styling obviously

Me. The two cars have nothing to do with each other.

Rodax 08-28-2004 12:04 AM

Yeah the new division is called "Chevota" and they have some fine vehicles in the works. They're working on a family lawnmower that seats 6 and gets 39 highway.

Cybergypsy 08-28-2004 12:14 AM

not trying to be "that guy" but you guys need to wake up... i think its more of an ion chaassis then a cobalt... but they could also be the same, who knows besides corporate... ?

WHY CAN'T YOU LISTEN? "Who knows?" I know. The Cobalt and Ion are on the GM Delta platform. The Scion tC is on the Toyota Avensis platform. The Ion and Cobalt have a lot in common, but the tC HAS NOTHING IN COMMON WITH THE OTHER TWO.

Can somebody lock this thread? It's getting stupid(er).

haihengh 08-28-2004 04:49 PM

the reason to share platform is to reduce cost, the reaso why tC is so cheap maybe because toyota save yeas of R&D on tC development, Toyota will follow the say trend since scion is a about cheap, cool looking, and quality car. there is nothing groundbreaking in scion, and all the scions are base on a proven platform(save labor time, toyota engineers are expensive). i think the manufactoring cost for maybe near camry. the avensis is not a cheap platform by any mean, there is no way GM can save $$ by using avensis for Cobalt, that's why i say using a 20k car platform on a 10k car is nonsense.

you obviously don't work for the big 3 or even live anywhere near detroit like i do.. because if you did, you wouldn't think up this hilarious material..
Toyota to use a Ford or GM platform? how funny.. You obviously are a funny funny man.. maybe you should realize that the big 3 aren't going to fire their engineers and buy competitors platforms.. and toyota to sell their competitive advantage like the scion tc to GM? how funny indeed..

Carlanga 08-28-2004 07:54 PM

Don't worry thats total BS
