sorry i just have to ask this...

...when ppl make a list of their mods...

...do floor mats, mud flaps, stock spoilers, power windows/door locks, sun roofs, something that you didn't get yet, ipods, stock replacement parts, hub caps, and painted steelies really count?

and are there any more that you guys can think of?

O5_TRD_tC 12-21-2007 03:58 AM

lol @ power door locks/windows!

i consider anything that isn't standard on the car a mod even if its a factory option.

and people that list the auto dimming mirror as a mod..

jortega456 12-21-2007 04:03 AM

I'm gonna go with they shouldnt count.

IMO Moving the tC badge to the front is not a mod, neither is adding decals

LOL point and score....

yeah.. and putting tC badges on the fenders..

Yanki01 12-21-2007 04:17 AM

who's really counting? I have OBX pedals as a mod becuase it didnt come with the car along with the SCION license plate frame and the floor mats which are on my cardomain page. It doesnt have to be "aftermarket" or something you buy from somewhere else to be a "mod". Dont see a problem with it. Hell i even have LEDs in my dome lights as a mod. I dont see it as a problem but obviously some peeps have problems with it. Never saw any rules on what you cant put in your profile but i guess thats besides the point? I guess its all who can we make fun of about their profile? Im not trying to start anything but i can see where this thread will go by tomorrow night.

jaxtcracer 12-21-2007 04:18 AM

i disagree with the OBX stuff. sure, it's a dealer option but it's an aftermarket ____ knob / pedals nonetheless. hey, maybe i'm just biased because i have them. i consider them a mod, though. if i hadn't gotten them for a HECK of a deal, i would have gotten momo or another brand, but fact is i still don't have the stock pedals or shift knob. $.02

silverstreaktc 12-21-2007 04:20 AM

nobody ever said it was illegal to post something as a mod....but many of these things are either STANDARD. I mean, if that's the case, i can take a dump in my trunk and call it a mod.

Macavely 12-21-2007 04:25 AM

I never consider Shift Knob , shifter boots. Pedals mods.. don't know why .. if other people do that fine with me too.. but for me myself never really did..

Yanki01 12-21-2007 04:26 AM

if it didnt come financed or from the dealership, then i would consider it a mod for me? obviously some people would think different?

silverstreaktc 12-21-2007 04:26 AM

i was JUST talking to my friend with a tc and he said that he put numbers on the side of his car with car chalk to make it seem like he races it

TO HIM, THAT IS A MOD

aftermarket poop knob

Im noticing a pattern here. :P

Anyways, Im with jaxtcracer on this one. Usually something like the OBX stuff does not come on the car from Japan, so in my mind its aftermarket. Also deleting/adding/relocating badges is a mod, albeit a very minor one, as they are changes made to the car. Just my opinion.

jortega456 12-21-2007 04:34 AM

how much whp does car chalk add to your car, if its more than one its a mod

LMAO

Not to complicate things, but technically those are factory accessories. Which I would say is a third category alltogether. So they are but they aren't. I guess its all a judgement call anyways. Personally, out of silverstreaktc's list, only the bike rack and bug shield is a mod in my opinion. The rest can be removed so easily that they dont really "modify" the car.

draxcaliber 12-21-2007 05:12 AM

look, anything that didn't come with the car from the factory is a mod. it really doesn't matter what you think about it at all.

and it is actually very convienent when people list some mundane stuff in their profile because sometimes other people like to ask them about how they like them.

i was looking for an arm rest for my gf's xa, went through some profiles and pm'ed people about how much they like theirs, between OEM and zeta and a few others.

you want to know what trd exhaust sounds like, ask me, i have it, i'll tell you it sounds great, but doesn't add any power.

do tires count as a mod? i replaced the oem set, and i list whatever i'm currently using, so if somebody wants to know about kumho ecsta asx from somebody who actually has them, they can ask.

shift knobs, who knows, maybe you want to ask somebody where they bought their momo knob etc.

if i list the streaks of grime on my car from driving 80 mph in the rain on salty dirty roads as a mod, does it really hurt anybody? answer, no, it doesn't. get over it.

IntegreS_350 12-21-2007 12:26 PM

^^^ Hmmm, yes yes, you make a valid point indeed.

:ponder:

I personally would not list something like a cargo cover, or floor mats as a mod- in my tC, I ordered it with the oem ground effect, spoiler, emx rims, trd exhaust, sway bar, strut bar (pretty much almost all of the accessories from Scion or TRD) and I don't consider them "mods," even though the sway bar technically is one-- but I figure I bought it that way.....so I only include TRD lowering springs and yellow luminics in the fog lights a "mod" for me.... but thats just me =]

DanielNC06 12-21-2007 01:58 PM

whether we do or dont think its should be a mod, people are still going to list them, so we should take what we read and judge ourselves...i think anything that you have bought after the purchase at the dealer and is not Scion/Toyota brands should be counted....it IS all money that your investing your car and thats what scionlife is all about...

aaronl 12-21-2007 02:02 PM

when they go to a show and say they have 27 mods to their car that just means a better chance for you when your 15 mods include turbos, real rims, real exhaust, etc vs their floor mats, toy car, led blinker, and coffee can exhaust

vettereddie 12-21-2007 03:10 PM

I can attest to the fact that judges don't award points based on the length of your mod list. I have been passed over by vehicles that only had a sub box, VHT heads / tails, interior pait accents and I/H/E. They were well done and made for a very clean, coherant look. I have a two-tone paint job, rims, a supercharger, bamboo flooring, and a host of other mods, but because I'm still putting the "look" together it still lacks coherance and thus I'm getting passed over. Once my sub and amp rack go from carpet to glass, I'm sure the interior will come together much better.

As for what counts as a mod, my personal taste is anything that isn't branded Scion as an accessory. I don't count the factory spoiler but I DO count the TRD CAI. Hopefully by the time I'm done the only thing left stock will be the rear quarterpanel.

HR_Guy 12-21-2007 03:22 PM

I remember seeing "seatbelts" listed in someone's sig here a while ago. Obviously a play off this same subject, but some people list all sorts of odd things. My tC is stock with a few factory options, but nothing worth listing in my sig.

JaCqEeZ 12-21-2007 03:28 PM

This might just be the most tardy thread ever.

Yanki01 12-21-2007 06:41 PM

ive seen air bags as a mod?

Hyghgynx 12-21-2007 08:55 PM

Are we talking about 'profiles' or 'sigs' here?
Why do we even have 'profiles' when some peeps here list their "mods" in their 'sig'?
I find that annoying. Just like you find it annoying when we list OBX Sport Pedals Covers as "mods".
We are all in the same boat of annoyance.
We just have to deal and move on. :P

Aroddalobster 12-21-2007 09:02 PM

new washer fluid

Ryz0n 12-21-2007 09:07 PM

mod=modification. Anything that comes with the car stock is not a mod. Anything they put that is aftermarket is a "mod". In all fairness, I'd consider the factory mods mods too lol.

silverstreaktc 12-21-2007 10:45 PM

haha its funny how big of an argument it became.

Yanki01 12-21-2007 10:54 PM

knew it.

tC4italy 12-22-2007 04:09 PM

argument? where?

Cupcake 12-22-2007 06:52 PM

Anything that you've done to your car and are proud of (IMO) should be considered a mod. If you install and crappy aftermarket dual brand cd player that was on sale at walmart, but you put your hands in your dash and wired it up. You can brag about it.

In our community doing it yourself is something we all do. In the world many people dont even know how to change their own oil, heck, some dont know where the gas goes in and drive until their car stops. (celebs)

Nick06tC 12-22-2007 07:02 PM

I think it depends on your style and how much your car is modified.

If you are ust starting out or only have a bunch of small mods. Listing everything will show you are atleast trying.
But once you have it all, I think its funny when people try to make it look like they have more by listing the most mundane things.

Example, my car.
Before I had alot done, yes if someone asked what I had done, I would say wheels, exhuast, spoiler, pedals, shifter, stereo, supercharger...etc.

But now that I pretty much have everything done that can be done, I only mention the major things. If they want to look more into it, they can.
So now when people ask, my list is short:
Wheels, bodykit, custom paint, supercharger, racing seats, system.

But yes, I wont point out names, but its funny when people list 50 things, hen you look at the car and realize other than wheels, it looks pretty stock. (but you do have to start somewhere, not many people have time or money to do it all in a month.) (my car is 2 years in the works.)

shadow12one 12-22-2007 07:09 PM

Mod is short for modification. A modification is a change from somethings original state. Anything you add or remove is a modification from how your car originally was when you got it.
