Default speedometer off...

I have a 2005 tc, 37k miles on it, automatic.

Lately I've been having speedometer issues.

1st time I noticed everyone was passing me, that never happens - I'm a speeder. So I looked at my speedometer and it was at 45, then I check my vehicle dynamics on my navi and it says I'm going 40. (Navi is never off). Had my boyfriend check it at his dealership and he tells me I'm crazy, it's fine and that I shouldn't go off the navi.

It did it 2 times the first day, then after the dealership it was fine. He couldn't duplicate the problem.

Today I'm driving and again I notice everyone is passing me... So I check the speedometer against my navi and the speedometer says 50, navi says 40.

When I came to a complete stop the needle on the speedometer stayed at 10mph. I got to work and shut the car off and turned it back on, still said 10mph in park.

I'm sure when I go back out in the morning to leave it's going to be fine... What is going on with my car?

First of all have you changed wheels or tires?

I have stock wheels - chrome, and no change in tire size.

well you haven't had any LED work done to your gauges have you? if not you might have to open the gauge cluster and re-adjust the needles, especially if it is at 10MPH when stopped or off.

no LED work done to the gauges, no gauge work at all.

this is the first time it's stayed above zero at a stop if you know what I mean.

I wouldn't think it was the needles if the car itself was going 5-10mph slower than what the gauge said... or would it?

But I do believe its going to be fine again when I go out in a few hours to drive home.

I don't understand what could be making it doing intermittently.

take a video if you can,

the needle could have been jarred over for some reason and reads 10 miles over, or 5 miles over

like I thought - it was fine when I went out to leave that morning... very confusing.

I don't want to take the car into the dealership as they are probably not going to duplicate the problem.

I guess I will wait to see when it happens next.

I will try to take a video of the shenanigans as it happens.

Who cares...It it too much to subtract 10 from the speed that your car is displaying ?

... I would certainly care.

And the problem is intermittent, not constant.

Default Speedometer and inaccurate speed readings

I’ve been trying to fix this speedometer issue. My readings are fine till I reach 55-65mph then my needle goes up and down around those speeds. I had Waze app on and it was telling me I was going around 78mph but the needle was bumping up and down at 65 mph.

things I’ve tried to change: speed sensors, cluster, and ecm.

still have this persisting problem, not sure where to go next on this.

I do have aftermarket rims, had them for years and I haven’t seen this issue till recently.

abs lights are on and have been for years.
