To report the rattles of the tC, you can call 1-(866)-70-SCION or keep posting the problem of rattles on this forum to let the people of the world know before they decide to buy a tC.

I dono, all cars will rattle when going over bumpy roads, especially hatchbacks. Yes, even brand new cars. My tC isn't too bad after I got the sun roof problem fixed. Oh and the Bay Area has IMO the worst roads anywhere. :?

Ok only about 300 miles on it and I have my first rattle and the same as described its in the back right corner. It did hear sound like glass/metal or something and got my attention, after spending a little time to study the noise I think I figured out its coming from the rear passenger seat belt where its connected somewhere in the side panel of the car. Now I just have to find time to go to the dealer to fix it. I guess scion just needs to put some sort of padding in that area, as its noticeable that along the frame of the car is hallow so minor sounds tend to sound larger.

One thing that kind of made me wonder was driving on a wet road after the rain, I noticed in the back 1/2 I could hear water and road noise almost t as if a window was open. I guess it is probably just the design of the car.

Ether way it’s a $16K car and if minor noises are all that’s happening, that is a good thing (Better then my previous owned cars). Usually there are bigger issues from car companies on first year release.

Hi Everyone,
I have a rattle in my tC similar to what you are all describing. When I was at the dealer today the service guy encouraged me to call the issue into Scion and get them to investigate it. So, if you have a similar rattle please call in. The more we let them know about issues the faster they will try and help the dealers solve them for us! 1-(866)-70-SCION
Good luck to everyone experiencing this problem.

I called Scion National Headquarter in California by mid Sept complaining about the rattles in the tC and the specialist of Scion reported this problem to her factory in Japan. Since I didn't want to bring my brand new car to the dealer for disassembling the hatchback door to find a fix. She understands how I feel and she will follow this issue up with the factory to see if there is a Service Bulletin Board coming out for the dealer to follow for the fix and will call me in a month.

Default I had it to

I just got my Silver tC on Mon Sept 20 after waiting one month for it to arrive at the dealer and I notice that rattle noise in back by hatch door and I removed that trunk plastic cover that hangs on both side of the trunk and the noise disapear. I hope this will solve your issue to. So far the car has a nice quiet ride.

I did remove the trunk plastic cover hanging on both sides and folded the back seats.
I also lay back to pin point the rattles when the tc was driven by someone. It looks like from the glass at the end of the hatchback door.

I had a rattle due to the plastic trim at the front of the hatch being a little loose. You can check by tapping on it. Pop it off and apply some self-adhesive foam weatherstripping at contact points and reinstall.

How would you do the work (pop it off and reinstall) with such a big piece of glass on the hatchback door ?

A lady of Scion National Headquarter in US called me yesterday for a survey on my
tC I have bought three weeks ago. I gave my tC and the dealer's business practice
very high rating scores. However, I told her that I am not satisfied with the rattles from the hatchback door. She said that she would make a note for that.

Just remove the loose plastic trim, not the entire hatch. It pulls straight off.

By all means, call the 800 number. Here's why: Toyota has a production philosophy called kaizen -- an idea that any employee anywhere in the production process can suggest ideas to improve the quality and manufacturing of the vehicles they produce.

Customer feedback is vitally important for two reasons: 1) to make sure you are satisfied with your purchase and 2) to make sure future customers are satisfied with their vehicles.

The only way to make future vehicles better is if customers speak up. I continually monitor these boards so that I can walk straight back to our service department and give them a "heads up" on customer concerns so that they will be aware of the issues.

As a certified Scion consultant, I say, keep speaking up. It helps everybody concerned and makes for better vehicles. Thanks....

I'm a little over 4500 miles, and i've done long road trips, short ones, rough roads, you name it... i've most likely driven it, i've yet to have a single problem from my tC... this kills me to see this many complaints from buyers, kinda makes me wonder when is it my turn... not that i want it or anything... but damn! Remember, your not buying a Benz, or Lexus for crying out loud... they're farily cheap cars, made to look good to attract the young buyer. Get some tools and stuff and figure out the problem yourself, shouldn't be that complicated... usually just a nut, or something lacking some adhesive.

It doesn't matter whether it is cheap or not cheap car. It's a feeling of driving a brand
new car with rattling glass sounds from the hatchback door. It's an annoyance.

Hi Stephen

Thanks for your advice. I still don't understand how to remove the plastic trim. Do you
mean the long white bar holding up the glass along side inside of the hatchback door ?

I dont get it...i had one of the very 1st production tC's and I have over 4000 miles on her, and I have had NO problems with my baby. No dashboard rattles, no sunroof pops, no rear window rattles, no problems with my windows...

What is going on with the tC's these days..they sure dont make em like they used to...

That could be. Maybe they changed the production cycle a little mid way to make the turn out time faster & by doing so caused all these problems.

i have a #10550 tC.. and yeah i can tell you that this rustling noise is from the cargo cover.. taking it in and out ends up opening up the tolerances on the plastic which it clips into.. i've noticed it more since i'm moving it a lot.. so yes over time it does open up and make some noise.. i think some masking tape or foam tape would do the trick.. yeah if you remove it.. no more rustling.. sometimes it can be a light rattle.. when the radio is on, can't hear a thing besides.. the rattles coming from my 1996 civic even when new and all the way through owning it.. were a lot more than this.. this would be heaven in my old civic..

but you're right it shouldn't be there... try a little foam tape in the holes that the cover clips into.. should take up the slack, make a tighter fit..
