So I decided to have my hatchback rattling looked at.

I called up the Scion customer care # first about both the moonroof rattle and the hatchback. But I only heard the moonroof one day and never again, so I scratched that and got it to just the hatchback.

After Scion talked to my dealership, I had to call and set an appointment up, I did. I went in today at 3:45 and gave them the keys and played Uno for an hour with my girlfriend until it was ready.

They diagnosed the problem as "normal". I talked to a tech who says he was forced to sit in the hatchback when they went for a ride and that the noises are normal hatcback against the body, plus the 3 piece glass roof. He said it'll never cause a problem, and to just turn the radio up.

What do you guys think?

My new tC has rattling sounds from the hatchback and the right rear corner. Some people said that their tC have no rattling sounds and I was shocked. Maybe, they have turned their radio or cd loud so that they don't hear the rattling sounds. I don't know if this is normal doing so to cover the rattling sounds for a new car.

I definitly have the rattle in the back. I was cleaning the back window and trying to see if something is loose back there. I think it may be a piece of the window trim or something inside the hatch. I was tapping on the trim at the top of the window and one side sounded solid and the other loose and had an echo of sorts.
Has anyone had any luck convincing Scion or their dealer this is a real issue that needs to be corrected?

Well, I'm almost positive this is where the ratttle comes from: You can tell by taking your fist and beat on the window near, say the top right or left of the hatch, work your way down. You'll hear nothing out the norm until you get to the middle bottom part, where a rattle is heard. Bad seal possibly?

I have 4,800 mi. on my tC and the rattles are becoming ridiculous. The moonroof, the hatchback, the entire dashboard, and the stereo cover. I will definitely be taking it in soon when I have free time. I wonder what kinda loaner they'll give me.

i just spoke with SCION about the noise problems and the guy told me that, SCION has just issued a Service Bulletin a week ago to fix the moon-rof problem...so just take it to ur dealer to get that fixed

however, when i told him about the noises comin from the center console...he said that there is no Service Bulletin for that porblem yet, becuz no enough ppl are callin in about it and until SCION gets enough complains, there will be no Service Bulletin for that...so to all the ppl here who havent called and complained yet...PLS DO, only 10 mins of ur time will help us all get rid of this problem...

(I'm the guy who just took the pic with the arrow)

I'd just like to say this is the only rattle I have. I heard a creak when i did a really weird slope turn, but that was because of some monster body flex, and would happen in any car w/ a moonroof. I took it to the dealer and they said they'd be glad to look at it, but they weren't able to see anything obvious so they'd have to spend a lot of time in order to diagnose it. Also, it's not a big rattle, only heard w/ radio off, windows up, sunroof closed, and on a rough road. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal. That being said, I'll probably make a call in a few days to "complain," only in hope a TSB comes out or something that would be an easy fix. I fear that in order to fix it, you'd have to take out the rear window, which i've already invested money in tinting and putting my college's logo on.

that's the problem, sound is coming from the sticker. please only use DOT approved decals and keep your vehicle running smoother.

tC is being made in Japan where road condition is possibly better than most cities of
U.S. The maker of the tC might say what are you guys talking about rattles ! We don't
have this problem with tC when we are driving it in here Japan. Unfortunately, they did
not understand that they are selling their tC in U.S., not Japan. They should have had
a survey of road condition in U.S. and prepared for the rattles before they planned for
the production of a car selling in U.S. This is a big mistake and they are going to let
a lot of people down because of the rattles in tC.

that was my immediate diagnosis as well. your arrow points to the decal, so empirical evidence indicates that it is in fact the decal causing the rattle.

people, please, always use DOT approved decals on your cars. anything else is just asking for trouble.

Every car has rattles.

Go to any forum for any car, search for "rattles" and read on.

Just a five-minute sampling (all below are newer models):

VW
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1624620

Mazda3
http://www.mazda3forums.com/viewtopic.php?p=151288

Corolla LE (not a forum, but a complaint in a review - a tester car can rattle!)
http://info.detnews.com/autosconsume...ex.cfm?id=2667

Acura TL
http://www.acuraworld.com/forums/sho...&postid=762156

BMW 530i
http://www.bmw-forums.com/forum/inde...opic=19432&hl=

Rattles are a bad thing and should be fixed (by the dealer or YOU), but other cars are far from rattle-free.

The rattles in tC hatchback and from the right rear corner below the trunk are very
hard to pin point. I could not fix them by myself and I believe the dealer could not
fix them too. I can only blame myself unlucky and have complimentary rattles with
my purchase of a tC.

Yea, and well you know, what's all this talk I've heard about "Toyota quality" and then all the issues that almost all of us are experiencing with this car?

Normal? If that's the response, fine. I won't be buying Scion again and advise my friends to look elsewhere. What a load of crap.

Yea. If Scion does't fix the rattles in tC and produce more tC on U.S. roads. They will
know how many people get angry at them.

Almost all of us???

Don't go speaking for everyone - all you know is that a handful of people on a chat board are having what they think are problems.

I already showed you that all new cars can rattle. But I guess some people believe what they want to believe.

I'm glad you haven't experienced these problems yet. Really, I am. But from what I've been able to read on this site, and many others, is that at least 50% (a majority mind you) are experiencing problems with the tC.

Okay, how do you get "at least 50%"?

Do the math, prove it, and I'll believe you. Number of registered users with tCs, how many post that they have problems, etc...

You've got the burden of proof. the floor is yours.

And just for the record, I do believe you a little - because ALL CARS CAN RATTLE.
