Default Trade-In with aftermarket parts?

I know there have been similar threads in the past...but I can't seem to find them and I'm in a bit of a hurry.

I'm considering trading in my '07 tC (93k miles) for something 4-door in the very near future. I have a few aftermarket parts installed. Here's the list...nothing major:

Fujita CAI
Tein S-Tech springs
Borla axle-back
Greddy Strut bar
TWM Stage 2 short shifter with cable and base bushings
TWM Shift boot
TWM Shift ****
Vent Visors
Tenzo DC-6 rims
Clazzio seat covers
Painted waterfall
Painted front emblem and grille trim ring

I have the stock intake, springs, rims, shifter, and waterfall. The dealer was selling the car with the Borla already installed when I bought it new.

If you have traded your car in with any similar mods...did your dealer give you any less because of the mods? Would it be worth my time to revert everything back to stock?

in my experience selling my previous 2 modded cars, i think i did get less because of the mods...plus you can make some extra money if you sell all of your mods first especially since you have a lot of the stock parts already

You are not going to get any more money out of the car because of any extras. Sometimes they look down on that and think the car may have been driven harder. Put back to stock what you can if possible, if you want to, and sell off the mods. Might give you some $$$ to do a little downpayment or to do stuff to the new car. The wheels, seat covers, Greddy strut tower bar, and CAI would likely be better sold, the axle back you could trade for stock+cash.

I know that they aren't going to give you more. Just didn't know if they would give you less though, for the reason you stated. Especially with the springs which means more wear on the stock struts.

In the end, it's going to vary from dealer to dealer.

Depends on the dealer and trade in manager, but basically you won't get any money out of your mods.

I believe this has been discussed many times already in previous threads. For the most part, dealers won't give you anything extra for aftermarket parts. They will more than likely devalue your car. You're only real chance of getting extra may be if you have TRD parts and you're trading your car in at a Toyota dealership. Even then, you're still not guaranteed anything extra. You're best chance of getting the most for your car is back to as close as you can to OEM and also parting out.

For sure Carmax WILL offer BAD amount unless all parts are TRD. Everyone knows that. I did trade in process with them few years ago: they wanted $5k! I wasn't hitting the 150k mark yet!

But some dealers will actually sell it as is: use it as selling point. There's a aftermarket Honda Accord near me at a Chevy dealer: drove by there for three days straight on my way to work. They sold it!

Definitely revert to stock and sell the aftermarket parts (if you want the most for your car).

My $.02: From my personal experiences of getting rid of 2 different cars with lots of aftermarket mods...definitely get it back to as-stock-as-possible. If you can make it look like it was never modded, it will give the buyer peace of mind that the car is in good condition and that it hasnt been driven hard. Then, take all the aftermarket parts and post them on Craigslist or on the classifieds on scionlife and you'll get some extra cash for new mods on your 4-door!

I don't know if you're contemplating it, but if you can afford to be patient, sell the scion private party. Someone out there will buy it for considerably more than what a dealership will give you for trade-in.

Good luck!
