If I were you I wouldn't go on a public forum and tell the world where my key is to the locks on my wheels. That's just not too smart bro sorry

Default Lock

I'm not doing this but considered it. Was thinking of getting getting some sort of chain with a lock or a strong lock with skinny loop to "lock" the tire lock through the hole in the middle. If I put a copy of the padlock key on every car key, then I can just put the lock in in the back with the spare. The lock will slow down any robber and I figure anyone with the equipment to unlock my lock would be able to unlock the tire locks without my lock key anyway.

What I am doing now though and which might be a good suggestion is to wrap the lock in tape and even put on of those zip ties in the middle. Cushions the rattling. It won't stop a robber but its a pain to get off and hopefully, with the combination of hiding it, will put off a robber to giving up or take so long as to get caught. In the least, I wanna make said robber work hard if he wants to rob me.

Anyway, I'd tell you where I keep my lock but then I'd have to move it and there just isn't that many good hiding places in there.

A robber won't worry about the lock on your wheel. He will just take a crow bar and pop the wheel off. I work with a kid that hmmm for lack of better words was a thug but has started to get his life around. He said he was able to pop wheels off easily because the wheel lock only locks one lug nut. You can easily remove the other lug nuts and with all those removed there is plenty of leverage to put a bar in and pop the wheel off. He said to combat this use 2 locks opposite one another. This makes it vertually imposible to slip a bar in and pop it cause there is no leverage area.

Just a thought

I use 4 locks on my wheels. I put my key in the glove box. If someone really wants my wheels bad enough to bust my window and get into my glove box, then they can have them... I have insurance. Where do you guys live that this is a big problem?

You don't even need a key for most wheel locks. I simple 3/8 ratchet extension and 3/8 ratchet works great

All 4 of my lugs are locked! 3 of the lugs use 1 key and the 4th uses another key.

The 2 locks are well hidden in two seperate places nobody would ever look.

And as I was reading this post I thought of a few more good ideas...

1. Inside a flashlight (Who would steal the batteries?)
2. In the access panel to the taillight housing
3. In the dome light (if you didn't use it)

I can think of few more... Mine are hidden even better than this! Hey, in Los Angeles car theft is big problem. Every friend I know has had his car stolen AT LEAST once!

Look... if you had like 60k invested in your wheels, that would be one thing. For stock wheels or wheels that cost 2k or something, it's just a $25 disincentive for someone to mess with your car. I keep my key by the spare in the very small area cut out of the foam close to the back seats on the passenger side. You don't need to wrap it up because unless something else is in there, there is nothing for it to really hit and the space is small enough it doesn't make noise.

Oh... and I don't care about telling people where I keep it because it would be a whole lot of work to track me down just by knowing what city I'm in - let's just say I'm not worried. People are so paranoid about the dumbest things.

Heh... so now if you want to break my windows, you can steal my wheels. Either way, as long as you do $500 in damage, insurance covers it. I'm not too worried ;)
