2005 tC Steering Shaft
A while back I started hearing a clicking noise in the steering column when turning left only. Told husband, checked out CV joints/axle. They are fine. Then it stopped, never thought about it again til now. Now I feel something in the steering column, like a rubbing and I can hear something, not a whine fluids are fine. Only turning left or when going straight if I turn the wheel slightly to the left then I can feel and hear it. I was searching to see if anybody else has had this problem or knows what I'm talking about with tC's. Have had it checked out by mechanic and he can't seem to see anything wrong. I have looked on the NHTSA site for service bulletins, I don't believe there is one for what my problem is. While searching this site I did come across someone who had this problem with xB.

My 08 tC does this, however its when im turning right. Luckily, I have a good friend who is a Toyota mechanic. We hang out all the time and a month or so ago while I was over at his place I asked him. He searched around on my car for about 45 minutes and everything seemed fine. He determined it was the "crumple zone" of the steering shaft, meaning that the steering column is meant to crumple in if you were to get into a collision. He said that many cars have this feeling in the steering wheel, especially Chevy's. He lubed up the column and everything has been fine since.
