Default Hawk HP+ Squeaking

I just got these installed and they didn't squeak at all, until the next day. Now they squeak like no tomorrow. Is there any fix to this?

Did you bed them in properly? If so, it's just par for the course. They are aggressive high performance pads that are designed for track days and autocross but are still able to work at lower (street) temperatures. However, they squeal as a by-product.

I would not recommend scraping any sort of friction surface on the ground, that sounds like a horrible idea. It may get rid of the squealing but it could be horrible for performance especially if the ground leaves deposits on the pads.

If you didn't bed them in properly then bed them in properly.

  1. After installing new brake pads, make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 30-35 mph applying moderate pressure.
  2. Make an additional 2 to 3 hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph.
  3. DO NOT DRAG BRAKES!
  4. Allow 15 minutes for brake system to cool down.
  5. After step 4 your new pads are ready for use.

Dragging the brakes (or you could say riding the brakes) is when you are driving with the brake pedal partially depressed so slight brake pressure is being applied. Basically, if you aren't doing one of the bed-in stops keep your foot off the brake.

If they were installed and bed-in properly then there's nothing you can really do. Hawk HP+ pads along with some other brands in the same category just squeal from time to time. They may squeal for a few days and then if they get hot they may stop for a few days.

My Axxis Ultimates have squealed all along. You kind of make a sacrifice in performance for noise. Especially with the HP+.

Looks like I'll be getting OEM pads my next time around. They squeal even MORE than my Axxis Deluxe's.

Hawk makes another street performance pad, the HPS. It's designed for light autocross use and street use. Here's some descriptions from raceshopper.com. (http://raceshopper.com/hawk_brake_compounds.shtml)

Hawk Performance HP PLUS compound can take the heat at the Track and get you home safely without having to change your brake pads in and out. This compound was designed for the serious street and autocross enthusiast. Warning! Due to the dramatic friction levels produced by this product to achieve "race-level" braking; rotor wear, noise, dust, and pad wear may be increased.

Features:

-Extremely high friction output

-Race worthy for autocross

-Race worthy for club racing events

-Elevated temperature resistance
Note the comments about noise. The HPS is a low dust/low noise performance pad. The HP+ is a much more aggressive pad for people who spend time on a track or an autocross course.
