Knock, Knock......Who's there? ~~~~~~ Help please

Hello.

Eack time the weight in my car is tranfered from front to back, or vice versa, I head a single, loud, solid knock that seems to be coming from inbetween the front wheels. It only happens when braking to a stop or accellerating from a stop, so just when the wieght is transfered.

Here are the mods in that area:
-TRD Shocks
-Tein S-Techs
-Hotchkis Sways
-Draxas Exhaust
-Just removed MMW Header to put Stocker back on

I have had all the suspension components on for a while now without any problems, but when I put the stock exhaust manifold back on is when the sound started. But that is a factory peice~so I dunno.

Any ideas?

Thanks, BrianH

comming from the front? Might be the sways, it seems Hotchkis made a bad set of front sways, but i think they made them to the stock suspension? I think?

check to see that the strut bolts on top are tight and the one inside the top dust cover the actual middle bolt of the strut

could be the piece on your brake pads tapping into them. How long have your pads been on for? its not a bad thing that its happening (if thats what the problem is). I had the same question but it was only happening to me when I would pull out of my driveway for the first time in the morning ...and hit the brakes. Since you arent doing this that might not be the problem. First thing I would do would be to make sure your bolts are on secure on the struts ... thats an easy check - start there and see how it goes.

Same thing happens to me but its a couple of knocks and it ONLY happens when i brake hard itno a turn and not every single time. I'm stock by the way...

FYI: since I just changed my pads - i dont get the clicking when i go in reverse anymore. I still had 1/3 left on my pads so they werent that low but they were low enough to move.

Thanks for the reply guys. I don't think it is the pads because the brakes have just 12xxx on them and every baking component is factory.

For some reason I feel like it should have something to do with the header / s-pipe.

I will definitly check ubder the dust covers of the top hats of the struts. I had that as a problem with the rears not to long ago.

ANy other Ideas, keep em coming!

Thanks,

not tryna be a dick or anything but since you didnt respond to my PM i figured i'd ask you here......i was wondering if you shipped out the MMW header and s pipe yet?

Dude, I was traveling all day yesterday: 2 car commutes, 2 plane rides, and a bus that stalled on the railroad tracks~~~long day. I was just trying to get home, not check car forums. You didn't even give me 24 hours to respond to a PM before you try to make me look bad in some completly different thread! And yes the header went out just when I said it would, last week.

Keep it on task now......

interesting! same as me. only happens when JUST pull out of the driveway. Happens at either two times 1) when i start turning 2) when i first hit the brakes. i'm assuming the people with this problem are people who have switched out their suspension. but like jwaggz said, check the bolts on the stuts, it worked for my other friend.

I have the same problem except mine is coming from the rear.

Here is my story:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=133313

things we have in common:
TRD shocks
Tein springs (mine are H techs)
hotchkis sways (I only got rear installed)

Remember...I'm STOCK.
