Scraping sound when turning right *fixed i think*
 

Looking for some opinions on what this could be. This issue just appeared this morning as soon as I left for work. As soon as I backed out of the driveway, I heard a distinct scraping sound coming from the drivers side front wheel. To me it sounded like I had a build up of snow slush crap in the wheel well. It only does it when I turn the wheel to the right. The more I turn right, the more it scrapes. The scraping is relevant to speed, so the faster I go the faster the scrape. Turning to the left produces no noise, and also straight will not produce a noise, but the slightest turn to the right will make it start. Just a little more info on the car, almost 55,000 miles, haven't changed the brake pads since I got it brand new, stock rims.

If the inner fender lining some how came loose, I can see it making this noise.
Have you taken a look under your car to see if anything is showing signs of rubbing????

Lowered or still on stock springs?

Haven't had a chance to look under there yet. Hopefully I will get a chance tonight, if not tomorrow.

Still stock springs and struts. I haven't added anything aftermarket to the suspension yet, just new tires.

Also I forgot to mention, it sounds like a metal to metal sound, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the idea. When I get under there, I will look for any signs of tire rubbing.

My car started that exact same thing yesterday. My car was also in cold weather I dont know if that affects it or not. But in my case it was the front left hub bearing coming loose producing a slight but noticeable scraping/grinding sound when I turn right.

could be that or the pads feeler gauge scraping the rotor!

I will keep those ideas in mind! Sucks I have to wait until I get off work to check it out.

InfideL, how much or how easy was it to fix the hub bearing? Did it sound like it followed one single spot on the rotation of the wheel?

..ever had your brakes inspected..?

check for damage on the rotors it could be your rotors and calipers rubbing.. a bad wheel bearing can cause that.. i've had it before

try jacking up your car and see if there is wheel play

Well, I have some good news I think. I drove out for lunch and the noise was completely gone. i stopped at a Burger King and looked at the rotors, everything looked fine. I noticed the metal shroud thing behind the rotor and scraped it with my fingernail and it made the exact same sound as the one I heard on the way to work. So I guess it might have been a piece of ice or something on the rotor that was hitting that shroud. If I hear it agian, I will be sure to post it up. Thanks for all the ideas and advice! I'll probably jack it up this weekend and double check it just to be sure.

that metal thing behind the rotor is the cause i smacked my rim on a curb and it bent mine... bend it back and it should go away..

i said it before in a previous thread about a similar problem...what i did was just put a flathead screw driver against the back plate behind the brake rotor, and took a hammer and gently tapped on the screw driver. it fixed my problem...i guess the plate was just too close to the rotor or something dunno why.
