Springs on stock struts/shocks?

I see a HELL of a lot of people with lowering springs on their tc's here. It looks great, but wouldn't stiffer springs kill the stock shocks? All the mod lists i see say such and such springs but no shocks. I really wanna lower mine but not if im gonna have to end up buying new shocks in a couple thousand miles.

My tc is an 05 with 60k right now. I'm looking into either hotchkis springs or TRD's.

Also, it is ok to buy them used? They're not that expensive to begin with but i was just wondering...

I bought used Tanabe springs for my tC from a guy on here that lives close to me when he bought raceland coilovers. I have had the springs on for about 5k now and havent had any problems. but from everything i have heard it is NOT good for the stock struts/shocks. they are a wear item anyway so when they go bad just get something better than o.e.m. just my .02

had my stock shocks/struts w/ tein s-techs for about 35k. They weren't blown when i changed them for tokico's this summer, but they were starting to get a little sloppy.

I figure since you're already at 60k, might as well change them unless you wanna do the same job twice.
