205/40/17's on our stockies?
Usually I wouldn't care to go down to a thinner more low pro tire than what comes factory on my stockies...but there's a local selling that 205 size in blizzack studded snows and I would love to save some cash on tires while living in the NE winter wonderland.
I guess my question is, should I waste the money on brand new sized right tires or should this work out?

The width sounds fine. They recommend that you go 10mm narrower than stock tires for snows, it will plow less than a wider tire. Therefore, 205 is perfect. More info:

My worry is with the much shorter sidewall. 215/45 will have a much higher sidewall than a 205/40 so the overall wheel diameter will be much smaller. The tires should fit, just don't know if you want that small of an overall diameter. I used this calculator:
