C0210 Rear Speed Sensor RH Circuit
A little background: Upon ignition, my TPMS warning light flashes, then goes solid until the engine is cut off. The car is almost 16 years old so I assumed my tire sensor batteries are dying. I had new sensors installed (however the tire shop did not register them.) So I bought a multi-system scanner to register the sensors myself. Turns out I have a TPMS circuit problem that has to be fixed before I can register the new sensors.
The tire sensors transmit radio waves to a receiver that's hard-wired to the TPMS circuit. I looked online to see whether I can test this receiver, to no avail. I can't find a new receiver but Ebay has used ones as low as $12.00. Testing the old one first would be optimal but I don't know how.
I ran a scan to see if there's anything else wrong with the car. The scanner picked up trouble code C0210 - "Rear Wheel Speed Sensor RH Circuit". Interesting to note, the ABS warning light is not illuminated. I know that wheel speed sensors are part of the ABS system. Are wheel speed sensors also part of the TPMS system? In other words, could the TPMS warning light be a result of a bad ABS component? And if so, why is there no ABS warning light?
I tested the right rear speed sensor with a voltage meter set to ohms. The reading is 1180 so I assume the sensor is good. The fender well cable assembly looks good. There is no visible damage. No visible corrosion inside the connector. I disconnected the fender cable inside the car. The fender cable has continuity.
I was able to trace continuity to the front passenger kick panel. Unfortunately, I can't trace any further, due to the morass of wires, tape and cable ties. My C0210 culprit likely lies somewhere between the front passenger kick panel and the brake actuator under the hood.
Another interesting note: the right rear wheel does not lock up when I slam on the brakes. It seems to perform as expected. Now I'm wondering if my new dts scanner is faulty?
I cleared the C0210 code and am waiting to see if it comes back. In the meantime, I don't know how to pursue the TPMS warning light. Any suggestions?
