Not a stupid question at all, others probably wonder the same but are afraid to ask.

In this case it's just appearance, because some people like they way it looks.

From a practical perspective, you'll see most pro drift cars are stretched a bit too, but that's for improved performance. It results in quicker "turn-in" steering response. Normally when turning it takes time for the tire to follow the wheel due to sidewall flex, but when it's stretched such that the sidewall can't flex as much, the response time improves.

Hope that answers your question.
In my case I needed to stretch if I wanted these 9.5"s to fit

9.5's will not fit in the front.

will NOT fit in the front, they'll either poke or hit suspension. it is not possible.
