Default Help choosing new tires

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get some new tires for my oem rims. I've been looking at all season and summer tires and wanted to hear some input from you guys here since everyone here drives a tc. I've only experienced the stock tires(Bridgestone Potenzas) so I want to know how others compare.

Here are some of the tires I've been looking at and if anyone has any input/experience/advice about them please do share! : )

Hankook RADIAL K106
General Tire Altimax HP
Hankook VENTUS HR II H405
Kumho ECSTA ASX KU21
Dunlop DUN Direzza DZ101
General Tire EXCLAIM UHP

I've read the reviews that are posted in the thread that has been stickied but not too many reviews are posted. Ive also talked to some of the workers at a couple of auto centers but wanted to hear what the scion owners have to say. So please, educate me! Thanks in advance.

i've had kumho ecsta ASX, and i was very happy with them, cheap and competant, i even autocrossed with them.

a co-worker of mine has general tire exclaim uhp on her tC, and while i don't drive it like i do my tC, right off the bat i noticed they are a very noise tire, even when just driving around town at 30 mph.

look into the Nitto Neo Gens, great tire. Handles much better than the stock ones (especially during rain) and are more quieter too.

If you want an awesome tire, get a set of Direzza Z1 Star Specs! Low treadwear though but ultra grippy!

I have the General Tire Altimax HP and so far i love them. For my driving style they are perfect, I am a very relaxed driver so I dont get on my car that much. In the dry they are good they dont break loose that easy. In the rain I haven't hydroplaned once and i have been through some major stores. Snow they are decent but not the best. They do have a pretty sick treadwear rating and they are a good price.

I have the exclaim uhp and they are great... sticky and great through water.. I heard the hankooks are pretty good to. Go with the best bang for your buck and I think it is either the generals or the kumhos. There are other kumhos, I forget which ones, that are pretty good that car and driver ranked pretty high. Also depends if you need snow traction.

How many miles have you had your ASX for? I've read some reviews and heard Kumhos tend to be noisy. How are they compared to the OEM Bridgestones?

Same question, how many miles have you driven on them? And how are they compared to the OEM Bridgestones?

Have you thought about tires like ExtremeContact DWS by Continential? I have them on my tc, dude I absolutly love them. Their great in the rain, dry and absolutly superb in the snow, just an awsome all-season high performance tire!

I've looked into them. They got the best rating on tirerack.com. How many miles have you driven on them?

I went store hopping and went to Firestone. They showed me the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position, Bridgestone G019, and Firestone Firehawk GT. Anyone have these?

At Discount Tires, the guy I spoke to kept pushing me towards the Yokohama YK520. Anyone with these?

I've been extremely happy with my Continental ContiSportContact 3's. UTQG rating is higher than stock tires, but this is a summer tire only. However, these tires are quieter and handle very well in the rain. I will get the autox assessment later this summer.

I was close to purchasing the Nitto NeoGen's and the Z1 Star Spec, but the Discount Tire guy cut me a deal on the CSC3's and dropped the tire price to around 110 per tire.

+1

one of the biggest reasons i got them was for tread wear. they also had good ratings and reviews (from tire rack). i just do normal around time driving with the occasional run through the gears. they hold up great in downpours and light snow. haven't broken traction in them yet.

in fact, i was going to buy a set for my wife's xb1 as well.

I have like 6k on them right now probably, really no visible wear yet. They have almost twice the treadwear rating as the stock tires and the stocks last me like 33--- miles so if i can get like 40-45k out of them i will be really happy. To me they are a lot better then the stock bridgestone turanzas. Like i said i am very happy with them as far as in the rain and dry driving. Only small complaint i have with them is that they are kind of loud and rough when they are really cold but that usually goes away in a couple of minutes.

When cold do you mean when they haven't been driven on for awhile (a day or so?) or do you mean when the weather itself is cold?

I'm looking at tires to and I was just gonna get proxes 4's again but the general altimax has gotten some damn good reviews

Well I got the ExtremeContact dws tires over the summer, been driving on them till now. I also looked into the Potenza RE960AS Pole Position before settling with the Conti's, in my case price wasn't an issue at all. Put it this way, the EXTREMECONTACT DWS is a magnificent tire, plain an simple, I drove from Dover PA to NEW YORK CITY with two other passengers in my TC, a 4hr drive in heavy rain, at 75mph to 80mph with no problem. The tires never lossed traction, not once, I was amazed with the extreme grip!
