High pitch grinding...Toyota clueless...
I've got a 2005 tC, and it started with a high pitch grinding noise a couple of months ago. I happens when I've driven my car for a while, and it usually starts after hitting a speed of 40 mph. It's mostly from the right front side, and it's really loud. When I hit the brakes, it stops, or if I turn the wheel left or extreme right. I've had the brakes checked probably 4 different times, and they always say the brakes are fine, and they don't need to be replaced. I've even had the service manager ride with me and hear the noise. They replaced the Intake manifold and it helped another noise I had going on, but this noise remains.
I'm taking it back in tomorrow, and I want to be able to help, but since I'm a girl, they think I don't know what I'm talking about. But I'm a pretty capable girl...I can change a flat, oil, etc.

Rotors maybe? And when you say right do you mean drivers or passenger. It could also be a pulley grinding, maybe like a crank bearing or something, but just tell them you're not leaving until it's fixed.
The only thing that should make noise on the passenger side would be pulleys, belts or the rotor. This doesn't take brain surgery for them to troubleshoot, most of the noise makers are on the drivers side.
That's what I thought, but I've taken it in 4 times for this problem, and they still can figure it out. Plus when they put the intake on, when it kicks up while idling it shakes my whole car. I'm just about fed up with this car...haha!
Have they checked your bearings.......not too sure about the bearings in the tC but I have had other cars do that same thing......and it turns out to be a flat sided bearing rubbing the race and then you hit the brakes and the bearing turns and it stops squealing.
some cars the bearings are one unit and not changable without replacing the whole hub assy....not sure on the tC.....hope that can help you direct them on what to look for.

So yesterday I took it in, and well I got a call at 2:30 saying that they were torquing a bolt and it broke. So I couldn't drive it, and they had to order a new bolt. Someone explain to me why they don't keep bolts at the dealership...So now I'm stuck with a crappy PT Cruiser... I hope they found the problem, and that's the only thing they have to do to get it going.
