Mirror Shine on Rims
Hi.
I'm trying to achieve a chrome-like shine on my aluminum rims. The rims are pretty beat up now. Can I simply sand down the rims to a very fine smoothness, clean and polish, then coat with clear coat? Or do I have to add primer first (after cleaned), then a high gloss silver paint, then clear coat? Also Would a basecoat silver give me a good shine? I saw the sticky about aluminum rims, but it doesn't quite answer my question. Just want to make sure I'm doing things right before I begin. Thanks. |
Silver paint will not shine a mirror like finish. Itll just be silver..
You're better off sanding and polishing BUT clear coat will dull the finish. All you can do is keep up with polishing if you want shine |
sand in phases like you'd do for your valve cover then polish and polish an dpolish....and it wont stay so you'll have to continue to polish

Get a chrome coating done. Easiest for least amount of maintenance. But more expensive.

Thanks for the replies. Now to decide what to do...
