Default tire stretch question

I got my esm wheels on the stock tires right now since i didnt have enough cash to get tires when i got the wheels, and i want a little bit more of a stretch, but not too much so i want your guys input on what would be best... i was looking at 215/40 and at 205/40 but i think that would be a little too much.. if anyone has picks of a 17×8.5in wide wheel on any of these sizes i mentioned it would help a lot..

Thanks!

stock tc tires are 215/45, so a 215/40 would be the same amount of stretch with a shorter sidewall. you have to go with a narrower tire to stretch more. that means need 205 (40 or 45 series). that's only 10mm width difference between a 205 and 215. not all tires of the same width are the same. i read Federals are wider than they advertise. depends on the tire manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply. Im not looking for a crazy stretch like some people are running, i just want a little more of a stretch than what im currently on. So im guessing a 205/45 would be my best bet? Is anyone running this size on a 8.5 rim width?? Id like to see how it looks to get somewhat of an idea..

Not trying to flame anyone but stretching a tire is a dumb idea. You loose the tires ability to handle the cars load and not.to.mention you eat up your tires way faster than normal driving conditions. It's your car ultimately do what you want. Imho stretching them.just leads to a lot of problems down the road. Sure don't want dented rims going.through pot holes or speed bumps like that lol.
