wheel size plus drop combo question

I am looking at several wheel options with my h&r sport springs (1.4 inch drop). . .they are below. the only problem is the rims are 19x8.5. with 35 offset . .will they rub? Or will i have to roll the fenders? :nails: ALSO. . .which do you guys and gals prefer?!

Stern st-2

I checked the list but couldn't find any with this particular drop/size combination. . So that is why i am asking.

It is going to be one of these two. . . .i just can't decide which. . . . :tap:

Ah so I won't need to roll the fenders with the drop. . .that would rock!! and yeah I am leaning towards the sterns. . in either hyper black, hyper silver or chrome. . .

I've always wondered. . .does rolling your fenders have any negative effect on the car?

Anyone else have advice or opinion? Much is needed!! :silly:

you will rub..... pretty hard core on the front but you're drop is mild so it wont be as bad as some others, but yes you will rub

dunno what cruz is talking about a 19x8 et+35 wont rub but a 8.5 def will

Will rolling the fenders solve this problem?! i haven't really found any rims that are 19x8 that I like. . . if you know of any along these styles please SHARE!! :nails:

rolling the fenders will help a lot but i don't know if it will take care of the problem you might have to cut away some plastic.

Cut out plastic from where exactly? And will doing this have negative affects on the car? and where exactly does the rubbing take place on the wheel? Is it more toward the inside of the tire or more towards the outside? I never really understood what happens when wheels rub. . .

By the way thank you for all your help. . .im truly appreciating all of it, .

i don't know exactly what the negative effects are other than the cover not protecting your vitals. as far as it rubs against either the fender or the lining. this will probably occur on the lining which just means you need to cut out the lining wherever its rubbing.

18x8.5 with ET 35 rubbed on my car with Tanabe DF210 springs (about 2" drop), but only on full lock turns. The 19x8.5 with ET 35 will definately rub. It will rub on the outside tire above the lip of the wheel. If you can get a 19x8 or even a 19x7.5 with an ET 35 you will be better off. And by the way, Stern all the way.

i have 18's with a 3" drop anr mine dont rub, your drop isnt drastic so youll be fine with the right offset you dont want them sticking out too far.

okay question. . what are your tire specs? the tires I would get would be 225/35. . Since you say you only rub on full lock turns. . .and you have about half an inch lower drop. . .i might be able to get away with little to no rubbing. . .haha I actually plan on calculating the difference. . .LOL yes i am a bit of a nerd.

Second Question. . . what does rubbing do that so many people try to avoid it? I assume it messes with the tire tread, but what else really?

Dang. . . three inch drop. . with no rubbing? Fascinating. . . .

Leo_EdgeRacing 02-20-2008 03:37 PM

We recommend 215/35R19 which is what most recommend for the tC. I ran 18x8.5 ET 35 with 225/40R18 and rubbed on full lock turns. 225/35R19 is bit taller than 215/35 so there may be a bit rubbing there. We try to avoid rubbing for the fact that in time it can grind into the tire so much that it causes it to leak air, blow, ect... It messes up the tire eventually.

this thread might help. but yea to the guy that said he is on a 3 inch drop, whats ur suspension mods, and whats the off set of your wheels. you cant just say you have 18s and a 3 inch drop. that was not helpful at all.

i have 18x7.5 with a +38 off set with H&R coilovers about .5" from the bottom (aprox 3 inches) with 225/40 tires and no rubbing, but then again my fenders are rolled. but i honestly dont think i would be rubbing if the fenders where not rolled.

also like ben said with your wheel choices you will need to roll your rears (or even shave some off) but the fronts you will need to trim the plastic liner.

I checked that thread already. . that was one of the reasons I asked this question. . . the thread didn't have my specs. . .maybe I should just switch to TRD springs. .( .15) inches isn't that much. . .hahah THANKS for the advice though!! Any idea how much rolling the fenders will cost me?

Still taking other opinions as well!!
