Default DIY custom Eyelids without vinyl...

ok I thought of this a couple of months back but just got around to it...

this is how i used plasti dip to make my own eyelids

First i had a little left over in a can from a project awhile back i bought a rustoleum sprayer from home depot link is here

first you need to clean your headlights and area around them. then i used rubbing alcohol to remove oil and allow for a better stick

now tape everything off. i used electrical tape because its easier to curve to your desired curve with one piece and no wrinkles in the tape

for the technique i tried alittle something different after taping both sides off i sprayed one side with a quick light coat then switched to the other immediately moved back to the other and did 3-4 coats very fast (within 1.5 min) and immediately pealed the electrical tape off... if you let the plasti dip dry before removing the tape you will peal up the edges

you will need to rub off the overspray

here is my finished product

Tip: before you start spraying i advise taping around the light to lighten to over spray

That is a neat sprayer, I can never find a nice one. I damn near brused my thumbs helping my GF paint her bed. I only see the cheapo ones at WalMart.

What did you use as a line? Or was that freestyle? I like how it goes from thick to narrow.

cool. I'm looking forward to planning it and possibly trying. Wonder if you can clear coat it for protection.
How did you separate the plastic from the electrical tape?.
They guy in the other thread had to lightly use a razor blade. was that even an issue for you?

The reason I had to use a razor blade is because I let the plasti dip sit for to long so it dried over a bit. If you peel the tape when its all wet, you won't need a razor blade.

Also, the best part about plasti dip is that if you do not like it, just peel it off. Putting clear over it will make it unremovable, not to mention make it look glossy.

spraying clear coat over it wont make it unremovable it will simply put a gloss over it however if you do not cover all areas around the plasti dip it will make those areas alittle more glossy and if you decide to remove the plasti dip later you will be able to tell where it was but clear coat will not help the plasti dip at all actually plasti dip will absorb most of the clear and it wont do anything there are many threads and videos throughout the web of people who have tried the only way to actually glossify the plasti dip is to get the plasti dip glossifier... this is basically a clear glossy plasti dip that adheres to the outside of the plasti dip and wont be absorbed...

also most of the questions being asked are in the how to just read it
