2013 MT issues
I am interested in buying a 2013 tC, but upon reading Alldata, and reading countless posts, I still can't seem to find the answers I am looking for.
1) Can I remove the transmission without dropping the entire engine assembly with the trans?
2) Is it possible to to repair fifth gear externally like on the five speed 1g cars?
3) From reading for hours, it appears the car suffers the input shaft bearing issue. The sound disappears when the clutch is depressed. It does appear this transmission is in need of some TLC.
While I am a mechanic by trade, I have never dived into a transmission. Is this a relatively doable job? He wants $4k for the car, but if I have to drop another $3k to fix it, I may have to turn it away.
Thank you in advance to anyone who reads, and takes time to respond.

You're not going to get much response here.
The membership is not what it used to be due to a dead brand.
The owners that are left just read and move on.
As far as your question goes, I would move on from the transmission issues and I hope you did.
Let another person deal with it.
The value/price of the car vs the repairs is just not worth it unless you are a die hard TC fan.

Why not call a mechanic that does transmissions and ask what they would charge and then you have a 'worst case'...take that amount and the purchase price and see if it's worth it to you or if you'd end-up 'upside down' with the transmission replacement. Seems pretty straightforward...
