2013 tC with Check Engine and Trac Off Lights on
I am new to Scionlife so I apologize in advance if I am posting in the wrong area but I have an issue with my 2 month old tC I am hoping to get some advice on...
I had a friend drive my tC and stalled it in first gear on take off. Immediately the check engine and Trac Off lights came on. They've remained on since and the car seems to have reduced power.
I have an appointment for next week at the dealership to have it diagnosed but wanted to see if anyone has any input here.
Ok to drive on it until then? Can I do any damage? Any idea what might have tripped this?
Appreciate any response.

No didn't recently get any gas so not sure that would be the issue but I will check it. Thanks for the tip.
Wondering if because the engine was forced to shut down the computer thought there was some sort of failure. It seems to be running on reduced power currently. Maybe some sort of emergency mode.
I have an appointment Tuesday Am for diagnostic and service so I guess I'll avoid driving it until then to ensure I don't do any damage that could be considered out of warranty.

Traction light will always come on with the check engine light on Toyota vehicles,
so don't let the traction light fool your diagnosis.

Ah thanks for that. Although that makes me a bit more concerned. I wouldn't think a hard stall would cause damage on a brand new car in any way but I guess I'll see what the dealership pulls the codes. Hopefully it's not something more serious than just needing a reset.

I just tried the gas cap trick. Removed it and put back on. Started and still lights. Tried it a couple times and finally it started with no lights on.
Can't believe the gas cap could have tripped the lights from the jolt but seems like that's the case. I drove it without lights on and seems to be driving fine now.
I am going to keep an eye on it and bring it in in 500 miles when I am officially due for the first service. I'll see if they can run a diagnostic at that time. Unless they come on again I'll take it in early.
Thanks for the tips guys. Much appreciated.

I've taught a few people to drive my 2013. It's had probably 40+ stalls at this point. A clutch dropping will do more damage then a stall ever will.
Glad your issues solved.
Also, for future reference, if your car goes into "Guardian Mode" (Common term for the constant reduced power running mode) then you'll know, your gas consumption will be much higher + there will be a check engine light on the dash. Also there will be codes thrown.

Any time I have gotten a CEL, it is from using e85. I just disconnect the negative terminal for a few seconds to clear the CEL after I add a little 87 octane gas. So it may be from too much ethanol causing you to run a bit lean.

1. Did you get the car tuned?
2: Do you have a CEL eliminator on your 2nd O2 sensor?

Devastated.
My Scion is currently awaiting a tow. I did just fill up on gas. I went to take off and the car hesitated over and over. I pulled over because of the hesitation caused jolts to be significant.
My Check Engine Light came on and the Trac off light. Should I drain the gas and get new? Clean the fuel filter?
I'm lost. I love this car. Worked very hard for it and really want a light at the end of the tunnel.
Any suggestions?
