When I'm redlining in 3rd I dont often pay attention. I was trying to estimate a realistic number lol.

redlining the engine in 3rd gear is closer to 80 maybe 85 mph while 2nd gear redlines at about 60 mph. the manual has the exact numbers for each gear.

Im sure my numbers are off. Just added for dramatic effect. . He doesnt have to tell the dealer what happen, the cars computer did that for him. Freeze frame data is recorded when the check engine light comes on. Here are a few pics of a s/c civic motor that did the 3rd to 2nd thing at full throttle.

Sorry if its hard to see (taken with my phone) but you should be able to see two holes on each side of the block and a large broken section on cylinder chamber.

You mean the holes that look like a 12 Gauge Slug went through them, we can see them lol. Was that a DOHC or Single. I had a little 1.6 SOHC Turbo back in '03.

HELLO!

JUST REMOVE VALVE COVER AND YOU'LL SEE THE PROBLEM....

just fixed myself my 13' tC today...

3rd gear into 2nd gear miss shift over-rev just blows out of place some of the rocker arms

just have to put them back in and your motor will be just as new.

Dude if that is for real than that is just luck. That is be best case scenario from anyone that thinks they blew there motor. Good job if a over-rev did cause that and you fixed it.
Valve train on the top end is one thing, but blown piston rings or rods are another.

lmao... my question is how are you guys driving to mis-shift this badly...? why does it seem so easy to mis-shift? you all have short shifters? my shifter I stock and I find it pretty hard to mis-shift from 3rd into 2nd.

Yea... The most I would do is grind a gear in a parking lot

I've done the accidental downshift to second gear before. The engine hit the redline and didn't go past that. Though I wasn't redlining 3rd gear which is probably what the guy was doing. Go to the scrap yard and see if you can source an engine from a written off tc.
