Blow off valve

Blow off valve
Hey everyone!
I wanted to ask if the sound when shifting that makes the high pitches whistle sound is a blow off valve? If yes, what does that do exactly? Would it work the same way for an automatic ‘16 tC?
This is coming from someone who’s just now learning more about cars and I’m interested in learning more about them.
Thanks!

A blow off valve is intended to relieve the pressure on a turbo charged car. It prevents air from being forced into the intake while the pedal is released.
You will not get sound from a Blow Off Valve in a non-force induced four cylinder vehicle.
In the case of a turbo charged automatic, one would only hear sound at the end of the drive when the pedal is released.
On turbo charged cars that are manual transmission, you hear the blow off valve between gears since the driver usually removes his foot from the pedal between shifts. [Unless the driver is speed-shifting or rev-matching or something like that.]
