I've tried searching all over this site and youtube for a sound clip of a stock tC2 with just the Megan Racing axle back exhaust but I can only find first gens. Does anyone have one or possibly know where I can find one?

I want to just get an axle back to hold me over form modding until my warranty is up. I love the sound of the TRD but its price tag is outrageous for just an axle back. The Megan Racing one looks basically the same but at a much more reasonable price and I like the burnt tip. I know neither is going to add power on its own, I'm just looking to make the car sound a little better/louder.

 

I found a TRD for about the same price as the megan exhaust. it was used but in incredible condition - just look around i am sure you can find one for half the price of a new TRD exhaust or less. It does sound amazing

ah shoot, that sounds tough. to be honest i have not seen any videos of the megan axleback anywhere. just the cat back they make.

 

Same. Hopefully someone turns up something. Even a description form someone who has heard it would help.

 

It's an axle back. It doesn't matter what it sounds like, you'll still be disappointed.

 

I like the Tsudo S2 and TRD sound the best so far. I agree Toyota wants too much for the TRD.

yea $700 is pure insanity for a one piece pipe. it doesn't even open up the exhaust much if any because it doesn't replace the whole pipe assembly.

All I'm looking for is a little extra volume without any raspiness. I don't think I need anymore then an axle back to accomplish that. The TRD would accomplish that perfectly, but you can get a nice full cat back for the same price.

 

keep looking for used, don't be in a hurry. someone will eventually sell theirs and you can buy it cheap.

the megan one looks very similar to the TRD and the borla. borla has the smallest resonator design so maybe it's the loudest, but all 3 should be good!

 

This. No need to look for sound clips, they are all similar.

 

Yeah I'm going to wait a little while and then I likely will grab the Megan (If i do a sound clip will follow). I was thinking they were probably similar but differences in exhuast path through a resonator can make two similar looking cans sound incredibly different. Listening to first gens through their Megan sounds very similar to their TRD, not that that necessarily means anything.

Completely agreed. I haven't made any purchases without talking or hearing something first about it. I wouldn't expect you to do anything different, but this is an axle back we are talking about here, so much won't change. The sound differences really come into play with cat backs, or header backs. Those you will definitely need a sound clip for because none of them are the same.

 

I'm actually wanting to pick up a axle back now and then the pipe to turn it into a cat back later on once my warranty expires. Ultimately I want to do a full exhaust in the far off future and of the sound clips I've heard the TRD with the Megan pipe added to turn it into a cat back is my favorite sounding with a header.

As an aside do the tC2's only have one cat? The Megan markets their mid pipe as completing an axle back in to a cat back but on the cars I've owned a mid pipe would connect the header and cat back replacing the section with the cat in it.

 

i know we have 2 cats. one is on header but am unsure about second. i think its right after the S pipe (or connected to S pipe) right before that big resonator under the car's center.

 

OK thats what i figure. I need to get underneath and actually have a look.

 

That second cat i was talking about should be the small thing in front of the big resonator (far left) of this picture. then the S pipe connects to this cat and goes over to the second cat on the header. i may be wrong though.

Here is the other diagram where you can see that the red circled thing is the big resonator and the one in front, connected to it is the second cat.
