There have been a lot of people bringing in their TCs for transmission noise. Most mechanics diagnosed it as a throw out bearing but fail to fix the problem. Unfortunately for me the only one person in my area has actauly fixed the problem and it's the input shaft bearing which is pretty much what allows the main gear shaft to turn and you have to open the transmission to fix it. It's actually only a 30 dollar part but not something you want to mess with if you are not experienced with transmissions. From what I heard toyota is thinking about doing a recall on that part but unfortunately this isn't something you want to wait to fix. If the bearing ceases up completely it will bore a hole in your transmission and then well... you'll have to get a new one. Anyway hope that your problem isn't a server
I have the same issue but have been reluctant to bring mine in due to people's experiences here and other places. The new part most likely will fail and provide the same result, the transmission sounds worse then it did before or the dealership just refuses to fix citing no issue was found (I have had that before).

I'm hoping Toyota further acknowledges there is an issue and finds a better solution then to repair with the same part only to have it fail as well.

If it doesn't make the noise when sitting still with the clutch in its not the throwout bearing. that only makes noise when it gets loaded aka when you push the clutch in.

I test drove one yesterday and noticed the same noise when coasting in 2nd and 3rd with the clutch in. Thought it was just in my head. Now I am seriously reconsidering trading in for a tc...

If you hear the noise, don't buy the car..
Find another one and look at that.. Or just buy a new one, since the interest rates are lower on new anyway..

The one I ended up with was brand new fresh from the factory and has no issues. I think the one I test drove was a MY15 that had the crap beaten out of it by a bunch of people doing exactly what I did.

Why. I believe stock warranty states 5 years or 60,000 Miles. Were you passed that?
If Toyota will do it for $1600, a reputable shop would probably do it for $900. They don't have to drop the tranny for this.
