Push button start for 2012 tC

Hey - I am wondering if anyone has installed a Release 7.0 factory push button start in their 2012 non-Release 7.0 tC? I drove the RL7 and really liked the ignition set-up (but not the paint). I am thinking this could be rocket science and expensive to install based on the security issues, among others. Anyone who has done this conversion or researched it, I would like your comments. Thanks.

ordering stuff for the RS7 is going to be difficult unless you have a VIN number. Find a buddy with an RS7 and take him to the dealer. There they'll quote you insane amounts of money for the starter. The puerto rican tc comes standard with push to start so you can also take that route. After that its a matter of paying someone that knows car ignitions well to do the job.

ive looked into this you will actually have to get an aftermarket setup like this due to the way toyota's push button is setup if you really want to try though here is the button itself its about 150$ soo thats up to you

EDIT: and please search before posting i know this has been asked at least 2 or 3 times before

If anyone does this they'll have to get a whole new set of keys right? And pretty much program the computer in the car?

Thanks Alex and devanb for your input. The more I read about this, the less interested I am on taking it on. The RFID and security features appear to be tied heavily into to the factory ingnition settings. Modifying them appears to be opening the proverbial Pandora's Box. Not to mention the expense.

This would be a cool add on feature, but as pointed out, Toyota is going out of their way to make TRD parts equipped on Release Series vehicles near impossible or prohibitively expensive/difficult to get to protect those who were promised unique features when purchasing Release Series cars.

I'm thinking there are several other upgrades that will deliver more performance for the dollar than this nice-to-have one would.

Thanks again for the input, everyone.

I would not even bother attempting to intergrate the TRD push botton into the standard car. If you are interested go aftermarket but you will still need to put your key into the ignition in order for it to work.

If you really want to TRD setup sell you tc and get the RS.

found this and planning on installing it soon..

Hi Sarah - please let us all know how easy (or not) the installation is, and whether you are happy with the results. I saw this too, but was skeptical. I'm wondering how they integrate it with the anti-theft and ignition ID codes without making the conversion rocket science.

Somebody else has already posted that tCs sold in Puerto Rico have a push button start. If a Puerto Rican conversion is in fact possible, what would be more helpful would be to:

1. Provide a list of what parts are needed
2. Provide the name of a known (not suspected) dealership in PR that sells these parts for export to the mainland, AND speaks English
3. Point to a website or other place where someone who has done this conversion describes the steps involved to make the change.
4. Provide a cost for all of the parts needed.

That somebody else would be me, I was just teasing. If there is any problem with me doing that, just let me know. I also want to let you know, that I have better English than you and I'm born and raised in PR, This is not Mexico USA (California) So I'm sorry if you're just jealous...

^LOL. Yeah, some do forget that there are some that do speak both English and Spanish well on the island. That's cool that the tC2 there gets the push button start setup. IDK why they couldn't make it standard stateside.

push to start was one of the reasons I didn't get the RS7 I test drove. Once the battery runs out, it lets you turn it on once more, and then you have to go to the dealer to get a new battery. Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer the feeling of turning a key

So once every 5 years you need to replace the key battery?

I used to work in a Lexus dealership and all you had to do was hold the transponder near the push start button and the car would start. You can replace the battery yourself, too! The dealer isn't the only one who sells them.

Those buttons are easy to install, but you still need the key for unlocking the steering lock. That's why nobody is converting it.
