2014 Scion tC questions
I'm new here and perhaps this has been discussed before my arrival.
1. Why does the 2014 tC has 1 less horsepower?
2. Does the "new" automatic with rev-match and quicker shifting just something they tuned into the ECU are is it physically a different tranny?
Aside guessing, does anyone actually know? Thanks. Just curious.

I have the answer to #1, not so much #2.
The 2014 has the same engine which I'm sure produces the exact same power as the '11-'13. Power is just being measured differently by Toyota. Another instance where this happened in the past was with the Acura TL from '05 to '06. In '05 it was rated at 270 hp and then in '06 it was rated at 258 hp. Exact same car, exact same engine, exact same performance...just a different power "rating".
2. I know you didn't ask for guessing, but while I'm responding...I do hear the new auto tranny is legitimately better. I'll leave it up to someone else to explain.

Gotcha on the rating. I did some research on the tranny also and it seems it's software. I know our 09 Camry v6 certainly didn't shift as fast and hard as the 2013 Camry v6 we have now. Must be the same type of aggressive software they are using in the Scion.

Well, I just made an appointment with the shop foreman at the dealership today in 2 hours. They said they are willing to try and upload the 2014 shift program on my 2012 tC. I'll let you guys know if it works. $96.00 if it works. Free if it doesn't.

Unfortunately when I arrived the dealership got cold feet and decided they didn't want to even attempt. The manager said he's about 90% sure it would work but the risk was too much he said for them. Said it could possibly brick the ecu.
Good news is another dealership is going to attempt it next week.

I don't mean to thread jack but while we're on the topic of tc2.5 to tc2 differences, maybe the tc2.5's steering changes can be applied to the tc2? It seems possible, all they'd need to do is recalibrate and change the level of assist from the electric power steering motor, right?
