Default If I remove the gauge cluster/radio/hvac controls.. Can car still be driven?

The day I get it, I want to tear out my guage cluster/radio/hvac controls and send them to LEDmod for him to do his magic.

In that like week im without them, can I drive my car?. i'll know my speed etc but will it harm it thats what I want to know. like not blow anything up i assume?. any issues i need to be aware of?.

the car will drive, yes. but it will be impossible to know how fast youre going and how much fuel you have.

Just download an app on your phone that shows your realtime speed (I think the one I have is called Torque). There should be a ton of them out there.

Also, just fill your car up every 3-4 days, youll never hit empty.

I say go for it. You will be able to determine speed by what gear your in too along with the RPMS, but download a free app that shows your realtime speed you be good. Ummkay?

Does the ECU still keep track of the mileage on the car even though the odometer is not there?
You should of gotten a OBD tool such as UltraGauge or ScanGauge so you can see your revs and speed.
Dont take your car to the dealer for any servicing with your dash all taken apart. I'm sure they would not be fond of that lol.

Oh Yea. you can get a Speedometer app from any app store no matter what phone you have as long as you have GPS on the phone. Those are VERY accurate. Good point TorqueTC.
Also fill up the tank when you get the car. And fill it back up after 3-4 days just to be on the safe side. This would be the DUMBEST way to run out of gas!!

The gauge cluster is what stores the miles. So I'm assuming you could drive around without it and the car odometer would read what ever it last time it was plug in.

Oh you think so? Obviously with an analog odometer you can unhook it so no miles will be recorded. I thought maybe with these digital odometers your ECU will record the mileage and then update the digital odometer. It sounds reasonable right? I guess Freedom will find out.

Owners Manual break-in is 1,000 miles of No Sudden Acceleration, No RPM over 4,000.
I think however a good break-in is 500 Miles. But I drove nice 95% of the time during a 1,000 mile break-in. I'm at 1,100 miles now so i'm not as strict about how I drive. I'm not ripping ___ in every gear just yet ;)

The digital display odometer, is just a display, your miles are stored in the ECU.
If you unplug it, once you plug it back in it will have the correct miles, not sure if an ecu reset is nessesary though.

think about it, how stupid would it be if you could just unplg your guages and not have any miles recorded on your car.

yeah I have a 2005 with 500 miles, I only drove it to shop rite, once a month.

i know i have talk to ledmod before on this. i wanted to buy a cluster and send in to get the lighs put in. he told me that he would need the used one and my stock one so he could port the miles off the the stock unit into the used one. so he is saying the miles are stored in the cluster it self. not the ecu. or just drive around witht he used one and send him my stock one. im pretty sure most cluster are this way be them analog or digitel. i have found clusters on ebay shiped for 100 or less

im not so sure thats the case. if i bought a used cluster off ebay with 300k on it and my car really only had 30k the odomiter will not ubdate to show 30k . there is a device that you plug it into to change it. and only certan shiops can do think. i know ledmod can

I'm fairly certain you're wrong about that-- this certainly wasn't the case for a Lexus I used to own.
