My Transmission died on my 2012 tC with 87k miles!
I am 99% this is a farewell of my Scion. Took so much care of it. Unfortunately the manual transmission began to start a noise on neutral which gradually got louder as time passed. Took it to its general oil service the guy told me that it was a bearing noise.
A week later I go on my lunch break and notice some grinding on 3rd gear and from that point the transmission sometimes fails to get into gear sometimes, it cannot get in reverse, and of course the noise went away.
It's scary sometimes cause the trans will only let me go on 2nd, 1st about 80% of the time, etc.
I tried my hardest sourcing a transmission locally but it is nearly impossible, the closest one was 400 miles away. Transmission places that can get the trans (and only offer me 30day warranty) want 3500-4500
I work full time and this is my only means of transportation and I can't justify waiting on finding the right trans at the right price, nor spending 3.5k on a shop. I am most likely posting this on Craiglist to get around 7k if I am even lucky,
car is clean never got in in an accident. So sad to let it go. Bought it brand new in 2012, the car and I have gone through a lot, but I guess is time for another owner to fix it and give it some love.

I mean.. this sounds like it just needs a throwout bearing. They're pretty cheap, but can cause havoc if not replaced timely. Usually not too bad to replace yourself, but try to find someone who has done it before to help out.
