Newb looking into 2G tC

Hey fellas,

Newbie here, coming from the Honda world, so things are new to me here.

I need to replace my beater Mazda to something a bit more safe and reliable.

I'm thinking of getting into a 11 CSM auto. My moms lease is running up, and I'm thinking about buying it out. Buy out price is 10k CAD and the car currently has 71K km, but has been in a few accidents. Similar spec'd cars will fetch about 14-15k CAD around here.

I've driven the car a bunch and have the following thoughts;
Transmission sometimes doesn't know what gear it wants to be in.
Rear visibility is nearly non-existent.
Drives well, handles very nice, and has decent amount of pick up.
Rear hatch is deceivingly small, especially for taller items.
Window buffeting is kind of annoying.

Besides my picky issues, does anyone else have any major gripes with the car? Are there any immediate issues I should be looking at? I know it's a Toyota after all, so reliability should be fine as long as maintenance is looked after.

Thanks all!

Hey - I have a 2012 TC and have owned it since it was just about brand new. I love it.

1. transmission - I have a manual, so I do not have any issues with gears.

2. Rear visibility - I could see the difference when coming from a honda or an older car with less molded interior body lines. With it being a hatch vs. a 4-door I noticed a difference, but quickly got used to it. I added fish eye mirrors to my side mirrors and it seemed to end all of my complaints there.

3. 2.5L - One of my biggest drives for purchasing my car was that it was a manual and it had the pickup and go that I was looking for. I definitely agree with you there.

4. Rear hatch - I do not have much to compare it to. This and our Eagle Talon are the only two hatchbacks we have ever owned.

Overall - I have not heard of any major issues, complaints. Check out Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). When enough people complain it is posted to a site, but not enough to be considered a recall) that might give you a more over all for consumer feedback. Scion was originally a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru, if I am not mistaken, but now it is respected as more of its own line of cars.
