Tire fitment question...
 

I'm trying to go for the flush look here. What tires should i be using on these wheels,XXR 522's. 18x9.5 with +25mm offset. Also once the wheels are on should i go straight for coil-overs, or can i get away with lowering springs. I'm not extremely knowledgeable in this area so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

you might be getting a little poke with those so you might have to 'hellaflush' em with camber. or you can go with an offset in the 30-38 ballpark for a more flush look i think. might wnna double check with some other people on here though

For that wheel width and offset, you will have to roll the front fenders for clearance if you want to lower the car more than 1 inch(TRD springs). Do you want the rims flush with fenders, or do you want the tires flush with rims and fenders? You can throw the stock tires on those wheels, plenty of guys have put them on 18x9.5" rims.. I'd drop back to +35 offset wheels unless you have deep pockets.

yea see that's my question exactly. I'm not really sure as to what tire i want to use. I saw the wheels on another members car here on the forum. I don't really like copying others but i really like the way the car looks with them. Here is what I'm looking to do as far as wheels go.

99% sure he just reused the stock tires. The stretch of the tire gives his ride some fender clearance. Don't worry about the copying thing. Since XXR wheels are so affordable, it is inevitable. The 522 and 527 are so popular. I almost bough the 527 in Bronze, but they were out of stock for months. I do know how you feel though, that's one of the reasons why I opted for my Konig wheels. I knew that the average guy would not go for them, I'm not a trend follower. I love my wheels and don't care if nobody else likes them. Nobody else has them, actually I would love to see someone else get a set like mine but in a 9.5 width. They would look sweet on a SW or RS7. Back to the tire selection, you could go with 235/40 with a similar look to his ride and only loose a 1/2" rolling diameter. 235/40's are usually cheaper than 225/45's anyways. It's a more common tire size. His ride is proof that with the right tire, you can drop it with Tein S-Techs. I am warning you on ride quality, he and I both agreed the S-Techs with the harder compound stock tires = a harsh ride. Softer performance tires cured that for me.

OK sweet so my choices are either to stretch out the stock tire, or get new tires. Out of the two you have mentioned 235/40 or 225/45 which would be the best fit for the wheel as far as clearance goes? I would like to not have to roll my fenders just yet. Also you mentioned that stock tires will give it a harsh ride. What brand of tire would u suggest for good ride quality.

I'd go 235/40/18's. The stock tires are the 225/45/18's. Just run the stockers until you wear them out. Neither of the two tire sizes will require fender rolling. As for a brand, it really does not matter. I am a little biased since I work for Bridgestone, but most of our tires are expensive. Most tire companies these days are making good products. Find a reputable brand on sale in the size you want. Don't bother with a high end tire, it's a waste of money on these cars unless you race. The Firestone's I have are holding up great and stick like glue.

Thanks for all the help. BTW i think i found you on the forum, and your wheels are nice. I'm not the biggest fan of the thin spoke =( but they look sick on the car. And yea usually I don't like copying other people either, but I really do like those wheels. =)

Thanks and your welcome. I am thinking of powdercoating my wheels bronze later on if I keep the car. Wheel weight is a factor to consider btw. Mine are 9lbs lighter than our stock wheels and it made a nice difference. I like the 522's, almost bought some myself. But they weigh more than our stock wheels and that turned me away from them. You can really feel the difference of light weight wheels when you get on the throttle. Food for thought, weight is a 4 cylinder car's worst enemy. Anyways post up some pics when you get it all sorted!

So i looked it up and the XXR 522 are about 2 lb's heavier. Am I really gonna feel that difference?
