Default Can't shift out of park!

I have a 2004 Scion Xa with just over 200,000 miles. Today I started my car and tried to shift out of park (I have an automatic transmission). I could not get the shifter to go down one notch to reverse.

Any ideas of what is wrong?

If you cannot move the selector lever out of "park" to other positions even though the brake pedal is depressed, use the shift lock override button. You can find the instructions on page 162 of he owners manual. ^BK
