Hot coolant light / Coolant fan not kicking on
2005 xa, 66,000 miles
My hot coolant light came on over the weekend after a couple of hours of highway driving and the getting stuck in traffic, next day happened again turned on the heat and and the light went off...but I do not want to drive with the heat on all summer! I replaced the relay this morning ...but it is a wet rainy so the fan may not kick on anyway? Is there a way to test the fan? Is the fan easy to replace for a novice? looks like it should be. Is there something I am missing to test first? 2005 xa, 66,000 miles |
Thanks in advance!

any info on how to replace? |
I have just tested the fan by bypassing it to the battery...worked fine!
I have replaced the relay also today. Is there a thermostat sensor I should be checking? I have not replaced the Thermostat yet, before I do what other options are there? |
i thought it was a sensor that turned on the fan at a certan temp. not the thermostat that opens up to add coolant. or am i thinking about a diff item?
had that problem in my honda and just wierd the fan to run wile the car was on. so it was always on. |

As was already mentioned, it is a good chance that it's the thermostat. If not, then you may need to replace the fans.
One very useful tip for you if you live in a hot area and have to do a lot of idling.....have a coolant flush done at your local shop, and swap in NPG+ : Will cool better than the regular coolant, has a much higher boiling point because it is waterless. |
good tip with the npg! I am having some trouble finding the thermostat...usually it is on the to in american cars? Is there sensor for it or a way to test it?
