Possibly buying a used 05 xA. Has 217,000 miles on it..

My car was totaled and I need a new one. One that I found was an 05 Scion xA.
The only downside is that it has more than 200,000 miles on it.

If I were to get this car, does anyone know about how much longer it would last me?

Are there service records on it? How long a car will last is mostly dependent on how it was cared for.

Before my xB I had the chance to have a great 99 Corolla, sold by a professor at my university. He handed me every single service records about the car going back to the first day, organized neatly. Unfortunately I couldn't take care of the car as much as he did but it was an awesome ride, definitely better than lots of lower mileage and younger cars that has been poorly maintained. Still, it had only 140k on it. 200k sounds too high to me if you want to be on the safer side, although I have driven a '93 350k plus honda accord which was driving very well. If you're not in a seriously tight budget and found a great deal I'd keep looking.

It's pretty much been said, it all depends on how it's been cared for. Service records that show up, are only from places that report. A lot of shops don't report service (it's not a requirement).

It will also depend on how you care for it. What you want to do, is take it to a dealership or shop you trust, get a PPI (Pre-Purchace Inspection). That will tell you everything wrong with it, life span on a lot of components, like breaks, tyres, ect. Any red flags. With the dealer, as long as you make it clear to any salesmen wandering around the shop side, that you won't buy a car from them, they will leave pretty quickly and you can get back to business.

If you do get it, change ALL the fluids. Transmission, Coolant, Break fluid, Oil, ect. Always a good idea whenever buying a car, but even more so with higher mileage. Something else to consider when buying any higher mileage car (and I'll say even a 60,000 mile engine can blow at 65,000, there are MANY variables) you can ask your mechanic (unless its you) how much it would take to put in a new engine. Because low milage 1NZ-FE are fairly inexpensive.

Clean body, no frame rust or damage, then engines can be replaced. It's a cost v.s. worth situation, that all depends on personal preference.

I have a 04 with 210,000 and still going strong,

I have only replaced tires and changed the oil and filter.
I use synethic oil and since then the engine runs better and gets me better gas mileage. I'm getting 36 miles to the gallon with freeway and city driving combined

I have a 2005 Scion xa with 338,400 miles on it right now and it is my only vehicle. I live in Georgia and I just got back from NC in it. My only problem has been the Air Conditioning. The engine & Transmission are original. I recently replaced my alternator , and in the past have had to replace my starter. I think this by far is the most reliable car I have ever owned!
