xA going to become the next civic?
I'd like to hear everyones thoughts on this. By civic I mean the majority on the street that rev at every car with 10" exhaust tips and type R stickrers all over. With the relatively low price of the xA and big aftermakret support are you guys affraid the scion will get a reputation of being a riceboy car?
It all comes down to the mentality of the first generation of owners and enthusiasts. And the aftermarket too. If they push for those kind of things, then each successive group of owners will go down the same path. If all the impressionable, soon-to-be Scion owners see are people putting on certain ill-fitting or low-quality parts, then they will eventually do the same. It's gotta start somewhere! And the Scions are new enough that we can make a difference!
No--as long as Honda still makes cars, the ricers will flock to the grand H just because they "gOt mAd vTeC yO!"
Even with the low price of the Scion line, people are very very very brand loyal. And what rice loves best is Honda.

in my experience, a lot of the REAL honda guys hate the 7th gen and newer hondas, especially the civics. the day of the fast, lightweight, easy to work on civic has pretty much gone. ricers are one thing, since they don't even know what they're buying, bu real honda enthusiasts love the classics like the 92-95 EG civics, and even the older body styles. the new models just aren't the same now.
hondas are becoming an old fad but that's not to say the xA will become the in crowd.
if you notice the shift of the media towards other fresh new cars such as the WRX or the older non-played out cars such as the 240's and other drift possible cars, you'll see that the honda movement is in for a serious challenge.
but hopefully soon Toyota will release another vehicle to help gain more marketshare and everything will continue happily ever after

I don't see the xA going into that area too much... it's all about a combination that strikes the right chord with people. While I love my xA it doesn't have the potential (yet) to bring in the hordes. It is definitely a different car in terms of styling and power (you have to just admit to the fact that this is not anywhere near a race car off the showroom floor)
But you know people used to say the same thing about Hondas too... My $0.02 prediction, not likely to happen to the xA as it stands, but if major (and I mean industry wide) aftermarket support comes along I think it'll appeal more to a step above normal rice racers, just like a couple of people have said before, Rice likes Honda, and rice doesn't really know what it is getting into, it follows a trend. As it stands Scion/Toyota isn't in the path of that trend

I thought it took Type R stickers and neon lights to make a 10 second 1/4 mile car???
