08 xB limp mode 10mph help yyyyyyy

Going to be getting a 2008 Scion xB from a friend says it is stuck in limp mode will not go over 10 miles an hour.

What would be a fix for the solution? It is damn near brand new looking.

It can be caused by many different factors. Take a code reader to it and see if there's anything that stands out. Can be as simple as a sensor or as in depth as replacing an alternator.

first thing first, throw a OBDII scanner on it, see what the codes are.

im wondering if its engine or trans related.

Thank u guys in sure the reason buying the car from a friend and she has saying that she was told that he just need to hook a scanner to it so will there be anything related that could just be flashed off with a code reader organys at something I'm going to have to obviously look into just didn't want to go through all the trouble of getting the car here to realize it's something a lot more intensive than just alternator or scanning it

OBDII scanners are for emissions codes. You probably need a DTS scanner which is for diagnostic trouble codes.
