2004 xA: Temperature blinking and P0128 code

Hello all,

I have a little problem with my xA: two weeks ago, the red temperature light started to blink after a few miles. I checked the coolant level and topped off the radiator and the plastic reservoir. On the next trips, everything was fine.
Now, it started blinking again after a few miles and the CEL is on giving a P0128 code. I checked the coolant level and it is almost full, I just added like a cup. There is no evidence of a leak that I can see and I also noticed that the fan starts very early, like after two or three minutes.
What could be the problem?

Thanks.

P0128 code is for the Coolant Themostat. The Themostat either needs to be replaced or Coolant Temp. sensor is bad

Yes, but can it be caused by the pump not working properly or the level of coolant being too low because of a leak?

The pump usually has a grinding noise when it goes bad. What you can do is check for any pink residue around the pump or anywhere in the vicinity of that side of the engine and some guys have reported of pink residue on the inside of their hoods. Also this video can help if you think its the pump, listen and you can clearly hear the grinding.
