A top end Focus motor? Lol really? You're clearly not mechanically inclined if you they think massaging the frame rail and adding a couple wires to the stock harness is a lot of work for a motor that makes the same or more power stock that a boosted 1NZ.

It would seem you've found the 'magic bullet' in doing something no one else has done, some of the larger shops included, with your, paraphrasing a little here, just dropping a 2ZZ right in.

As I had mentioned, I'd love to get your feedback on how the car compares before and after and perhaps some pictures of this simple massaging of the "frame rail" (it is, however, a unibody vehicle) and the "couple of wires to the stock harness."

If it's truly as simple as you've portrayed it then I'll be the first to give you kudos and to ask for more details on how you managed to go about it but, until there's some solid evidence to substantiate your claim, it becomes like all of the other 'unicorn' 2ZZ swaps that never seemed to materialize.

I'll agree with you there. In taking on this swap there's definitely a lot of dead ends and no actual results. However you can see the OP has his in a mounted. Clearly it fits. And yes relative to axles and hubs I have found a way to use stock parts. No stock xA parts.
If you want to use them you can take the bell housing from the 6 speed and the gears, dif and other hallf of the trans case from the xA and put them together and keep your stock axles. People argue it's to much power for the can manual trans however I swap a
Escort GT motor into my 91 Ford Festiva and used the stock Festiva 5 speed and had no issues.
To put it into perspective the Festiva had 63hp stock and the GT motor had 150.

You could use the engine harness but it's slightly different than Scion where it connects to the fuse box on the driver side. So I just used the Scion engine harness. The only thing you need from The Matrix harness is the two wires that go to the lift cylinder Lloyd and then the wire that goes to the lift oil pressure switch. If you have a 06 Scion I believe they already have the two wire knock sensor but if you have a older model like me you'll have to snag the wires for the knock sensor and then you just hook those wires to the corresponding location in the ECU plug. It will still run without it. Matter of fact my xA is an automatic and the Matrix manual transmission ECU will crank up and run the1-NZ Motor. I will be keeping the 4 lug. I will be using all Factory parts nothing custom as far as the draft ran other than the driver side transmission mount
It's actually what I ended up using for my ECU. A 2003 Matrix XRS Auto ECU and Harness. This is very valuable information in doing this swap because like mr2gq said it's plug and play aside from a few things here and there.

Lol it is valuable cause you got all these " know it all's" who really don't know anything cause they've never researched it for them self but some how know it can't be done or give the generic stupid response" with enough money anything is possible" bs lol or saying ____ like " the wiring would be a complete pain in the ___" even though it's pretty much plug and play. Some people I tell ya lol

I actually started with a Celica GTS engine and harness. So If someone didn’t tell me the 03 Matrix had the same ECU connectors it would’ve took me a lot longer. But u do have to have some knowledge or diagrams to get the engine running.
It’s not gonna just start running after u plug up the ECU and accessories

Is your car finished? Did you stick with the stock radiator?

Well my point was, if you don't know don't start spouting ____ out trying to discourage someone from trying. And actually it will just plug in and start up. Like I said in my previous post before I took my engine and transmission out I took the XRS manual transmission ECU and plugged it in and it fired the stock 1nz right up and idled smooth. And my car is an automatic. But Not yet. Got the motor and tranny in. Just got to finish the trans mount and some other things. Got a new baby so I'm just doing it when I have time. Yeah most people wouldn't know about the matrix ECU and wiring. I figured it out on my own.

I can spout whatever I want, wasn’t trying to discourage anyone just stating what I went through with my swap. I was tired of reading people saying it can’t be done, so I said f it and just jumped in head first.

That wasn’t the case for me and it didn’t just start up...had to do some bypassing and studied pages and pages of wiring diagrams. Yea it’s just a few wires but it took research to get there, there’s no info on this online. And there’s a bunch of other stuff you have to figure out too. For me the dropping of the engine and custom mounts, all of the mechanical stuff was very easy. And congrats on the baby, I have a newborn as well.

Lol easy there partner I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about other people who start apost about doing the swap and the people flamming them or just giving stupid replies. And thanks on the congrats. Yeah I couldn't find any wiring info anywhere but I found a database for Toyota techs that's has all the info on every Toyota car. Cost 20$ for an unlimited 2 day pass but well worth it. After I pulled up the wiring diagrams is clear everything is the same for ECU pinning other then the lift. Did you use your stock engine harness? That's what I did. Made things so much more simple

I started the car with the stock Scion harness and made sure the engine was okay, but being that the GTS ECU and connectors didn't match up, it was a wiring nightmare to get everything working properly.

So, I did some calling around and found someone that told me that the Matrix XRS auto had the same ECU/harness wiring as my Scion.

The engine harness is a little different from the Matrix. Where it plugs into the fuse box on the driver side. Which is why I just used the Scion harness and added the wires/plugs for the lift.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the motor mounts or modifications you had to make to the 'frame' rails, would you?

Pics of the mounts and mods would be awesome! My wife literally gave me the ok to strip the xA and swap. I can’t find much on the electrical and mounts. The other stuff I’m not worried. Hope y’all can post em!

What transmission did you use? What's a list of the parts you used? Did you have to cut into the firewall to make room for exhaust manifold? I read that stock axles shaft can only handle up to something like 210 hp. Did you upgrade them then and if not have you tuned it and put the pressure on it yet? A more in-depth description would be dope for other people looking into it. Forced induction into the given 1nzfe just doesn't seem economical for the dollar per hp. Plus all the extra internal work to make it a daily.

Default Passenger side trans mount

Does anyone have pictures of the drivers side trans mount finished up? I am in the process of completing my 2zz swap and wondered how others mounted the transmission. I also had questions on the wiring? Any help would be great.

And back to my claims that a good number of people have claimed to have started the swap/completed the swap, etc. but when it comes to it no one has answered any questions or even shown proof of a completed and running swap. I know of one shop that has successfully done this and ended-up with a running xB.

Still waiting for anyone else to show they've done it too.
