Default 5sp - Has anyone changed ratio?

Just curious if it is even possible to change the gearing? Maybe even just 5 gear to a higher ratio.

well i keep thinking about it but i like my ratios very zippy or peppy or what ever

the easist way to do it is just swap out trannys with the echo that way you can save a couple of bucks

the echo tranny is geared higher... might be worth a try if you're willing to spend the cash

i am doing some parts and a shop is doing the rest...
i don't feel comfortable working in a transmission so i want some help...
you can take the whole gear set and use them (the 4th and 5th gears are diff)
you also need to watch what echo gears you get...diff models have diff ratios.

i will be doing the tear down (remove the tranny, bring it to the tranny shop. break it down)
then i will step back and watch a pro...
i will put it back once its finished and see how it turns out...
price wise i don't know yet...
used tranny 300...
labor to remove and reinstall tranny (if shop was doing)...400
labor to do the gear swaps...including new bearings...800-900
LSD 900
synth fluids...35
new flywheel 500
new clutch 250

next i will be looking into the drive shafts and CV's

??? Actually I was more concerned with freeway driving. If I can get 5th gear around 2.8-3g doing 70-75 that would help my MPG as I drive alot.

i have done the calculations...
at 80 mph....i'll be turning 3400 rpm (right at the start of the power band)
anything lower and you'll be pushing the pedal too hard to save fuel...

the clutch is about 400 for labor
and whatever the cost of the clutch is...

the LSD requires that you tear down the transmission...looking at 600-800 plus the LSD 880...if you don't do it at the same time as the clutch add another 400 to drop the tranny and reinstall it.

the gears won't make HP
its done to increase MPG or take better use of the power band

There's an easy solution for that - swap in the auto tranny...
