Water in a spark plug recess after cleaning the engine will make that cylinder miss. And one cylinder missing on a 4-banger will really shake the engine. That happened to me after washig my Mazda engine once, and now I blow the water out of the spark plug recesses with compressed air. Have not washed the xB engine yet.

Does a ground wire kit help. I think it did a bit. I did a DIY and got #4 arc welding cable (black), so I would have no problem getting it to bend where I wanted it and staying there. Seven ground wires that go to all stock ground points under the hood plus a transmission and top of engine one. Hid it well, but the 1/0 crimp/solder battery connector is the only thing that stands out a bit.

Default Rough Idle in Drive

I probably have more miles on mine than most owners, as I drive for a living. Anyway, my xB just kept getting worse and worse as far as the vibration (now noise) in drive, at a stop, and particularly with the A/C on.

IT'S THE MOTOR MOUNTS, GUYS!

My car has no mods other than the Hotchkiss strut bar, so I'm not putting more torque out than the car was designed for, so what's the deal with these things going totally out with so few miles on it? (Mine may have 75K+ now, but this has been getting worse and worse for over a year)

The 'stealer' quoted me over $700 to replace mine, so I told him to go pound sand. I want the stock parts back in it, unless someone has improved on the design (?). I don't want to go solid, and yes, I did a search first. Any thoughts?

JohnnyBfromPeoria - what is your idling rpm? Is it manual or auto?

Idle RPM is around 700 in D, and it's an automatic.

The engine is practically flopping around in there, the mounts are so toasted.

mine idles around 500, sometimes 700, automatic. It shakes pretty well too, and I have 80K + miles. maybe I should get my engine mounts checked.

Here's a quick how-to: put car in drive and turn on a/c while holding brakes. Have assistant look at engine with hood up, step on gas. If engine moves a lot - you need new engine mounts. The other test is if you are in traffic, come to a stop and while sitting there in drive, the car's vibration and noise drive you up the freaking wall...you need engine mounts!!!

Can you tell I'm a little ticked about this!?
